Re: Rail Transit
I'm listening - why is it not feasible? If we had only one solo driver lane, you would have left for your interview earlier, knowing you had a rough commute ahead. Remember, you and the potential employer chose the time of the interview (likely, you would have expressed a preference for a time not involving driving during rush hour). No solution will result in faster commutes for everyone, not even rail. However, allowing the least economical commuters (solo drivers) to bear the brunt of the burden maximizes fairness and promotes efficiency, while rail fails on both counts. How can HOV lanes be feasible (and currently in use), but a solo driver lane not be feasible?
I see, that rush hour solo drivers penalize all commuters (causing traffic congestion) is of no consequence, but were we to penalize them for the same reason, why, it's just awful, eh? It's not awful to penalize everyone on Oahu to build a limited range fixed rail system that may benefit 10% to 20% of the populace, no that's very good, but to penalize only those who are causing the problem and benefit all other commuters, well that's just awful - not.
