  • ever had Rolfing done to you?

I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and get your recommendations on who to try out.

Many EST participants have gone though the process of getting "Rolfed"

I am very skeptical of the whole EST movement that was happening back in the 70's. My mom almost got tied up in to it.
Erhard Seminars Training, or est (generally in lower-case), a controversial New Age large group awareness training (LGAT) seminar program, became popular during the 1970s. Werner Erhard (born John Paul Rosenberg) founded est and conducted the first est seminar in San Francisco, California, in October 1971. Landmark Education bought the rights to the intellectual property contained in the Est Training in 1991.

Pua'i your akamai... just forwarding some stuff I wikipedia'd (is that a word?)

I was curious about what Rolfing was.... when Wikipedia spit out est.. as a link... it sent out red flags to me.

I've had some rolfing done during a massage. While it was being done, I couldn't wait for it to be over and I found it a little painful. But I did feel better after it was done. (or perhaps it's like banging one's head against a brick wall and feeling better after stopping *g*) But, I understand it is more than just a massage technique and I haven't had it done for more than a short while (and the person who did it for me is no longer in Hawaii).

I think that column needs a major rewrite. I know enough about rolfing that is an intense physical therapy-like series which gets into the structural integrity of the body. As for all that newagey heebeejeebie stuff, the author of that article has his/her lines crossed.

I knew a physical therapist who was also a certified rolfer and she was as atheist as one can get. She died many years back (victim of a drunk driver), but if she was alive, I would go to her to get it done, as I was always curious to try it out. Since she ain't, I want to know who is reputable and trustworthy, and hear other people's experiences.

I keep thinking of Fred Rohlfing.

I've rolfed off of several boats but felt OK afterward. Dramamine helps.

Thanks Glen. I’m relieved I wasn’t the only one. (in fact I specifically clicked on this thread because of that)
