That the Secret Service™ probably had the home address, cellular phone number, social security number, mother’s maiden name, high school G.P.A., salary, pyschiatric evaluation and gun ownership record of everyone in that room (including the shoe-throwing reporter).

We can’t be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans.

Okay. Maybe that's close to the truth, but it didn't/wasn't enough to keep the President safe from possible harm in the situation. Their reaction time was too slow to have saved him if were anything more than just a bleepin' shoe. IMO

If nothing else good came of all this...

...at least Dana Perino now sports a black eye from getting whapped in the face with a mic stand, incurred when an agent lept into the fray to save Bush from a shoe...

Third: That bleepin’ shoe could've even had explosives!

That press conference (like every other one involving the President) used the usual security screening and precautions to make sure that no one carried in any weapons.

The only way to stop a reporter from suddenly throwing a shoe at the President is to ban everyone from wearing shoes. Don't know if such a policy would go over well with the press corp.

Whatever indeed. Dubya only has 34 more days in office. Doesn't matter to this country what happens to him at this point.

              ...I wouldn't say that.
There is still plenty more to uncover and be pissed at B&C for that will deserve legal actions on.

That reporter has the social development of a four year child. Appearently he didn't have any intelligent to say to be critical on our President with so he throws his shoes like a poorly parented little brat.

It would appear even Al-quada won't take or arm this retard who needs to go back to kindergarden and learn some manners. It wouldn't surprise me if he also spits into salad bars and defecates in elevators. Another proud product of the Iraqi school system under Saddam.

As outlandish as it was, this incident and the subsequent reaction among many Arabs, illustrates is how little respect the American President is getting.

Hopefully that will start to change in about a month.

I doubt we will have a more genuine respect from Arabs than what Bush have with all our other Presidents.

Not until we control OPEC. Or show them we don't need their oil, period.

Bush doesn't garner much respect in general.

As for not needing their oil, well that day has to come because the world is going to gradually deplete its oil reserves no matter who's in control. It's a finite resource and it's getting burned up like there's no tomorrow. And there won't be a tomorrow at this rate.

We all need to get smart and start looking at options such as biofuels, solar and wind energy, "smart" nuclear energy, geothermal energy, etc. With new battery technologies electric cars will become a very viable option.

And we have to start making shoes with soles that aren't based on petroleum products. This might spell the end of the rubber slipper!

Bush could have garnered some respect, Iraqi style, if he'da pulled out a Colt and blasted his attacker.

I doubt we'll need to worry about using up the world's oil reserves - we can expect a catastrophic collapse of civilization well before then, whether due to global warming, starving billions or some other obvious result of our disregard for limits.
May I always be found beneath your contempt.
