HDTV Channels

I'm currious as to why only ABC [KITV] is the only major network
[ABC,NBC,FOX,CBS] available
in HDTV here ? I know KGMB[CBS] had a HDTV channel but it was removed
as far as I recall due to copyright concerns.

KGMB and KHON also have HDTV channels, however they currently do not have a "media server" operational so they can only air live programming, mostly sports. ie. NO Primetime programming in High Definition. KGMB's HD channel was removed from Oceanic due to KGMB/KHON owner Emmis asking for additional compensation from Oceanic to carry the channels, and Oceanic is balking. FWIW: KHNL, KWHE, KIKU and KBFD also have digital channels but are only repeaters of the analog stations. KFVE and KHET digital stations are not broadcasting yet.

Thanks for the overview. A coworker of mine sings the praises of HD all the time, and when he talks about "Lost" in HD, I'm almost jealous. But until there's more stuff out there besides national feeds with an HD signal, it's not quite worth it for me.
