With Halloween soon upon us, this is a good time to discuss that fun treat we know as candy!
What was your favorite candies as a kid and what is it that you crave today? Throw in snacks too if you feel it's not sweet enough to be considered candy ((such as Arare).
A few categories previously discussed here at HT were Candy Bars and Chewing Gum. Of course there are many more worth discussing such as holiday novelties, collectible candies such as PEZ, lolipops, mints and local favorites to name a few.
I'll start with a few childhood local favorites of mine:
1.) Tomoe Ame - A Japanese candy that's soft and chewy with a clear edible rice paper "wrapper", as if you're eating Seran Wrap. lol The toy that came with it was just secondary, but still cool.
2. Haw Flakes - A Chinese candy that's shaped in a thin, tan-colored wafer, stacked in cylindrical wrappers. Very unique in flavor. We used to pretend we were taking communion with them. lol Our neighborhood Manapua man kept us well stocked with this very affordable treat.
