  • The Slippah Project!

It began here on HT four years ago. heheheh

"IT STARTED simply enough on local Internet discussion forum HawaiiThreads.com with a topic titled, "Christmas Wishlist." Just before Halloween, forum member "Doc1456" asked, "What do you want for Xmas?"

The usual suggestions followed: a new job; a laptop computer; world peace; motorcycle; underwear; kitchen appliances; gift cards.

Then "1stWahine," or "AuntiePupule," also known as Alyn Vasquez of Mayor Wright Homes in Kapalama, chimed in with her wish.

"I wish for all the children of MWH to have a pair of rubber slippers so they won't have to go barefoot. Somehow, even if I'll be one month late in getting them their slippers ... I'll make sure they'll get it!"
    http://archives.starbulletin.com/200...s/story01.html

And now four years later, it keeps growing and touching more lives. HOPE, LOVE AND ALOHA!

This year's Recipients are: MWH, Kaahumanu, Kamehameha, KPT, Palolo, IHS, Waianae Shelter, Leeward Homeless and Kauai Public Housing and Homeless. If can, we'll add Barbers Point Shelter.

KauKau Wagon will once again sponsor MWH's Slippah Wish Celebration on December 19, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.

Our own Mike_Lowrey is the Project Coordinator for the Island of Kauai.

I never heard of this before. I am going to pass the news article link to a another board I am on.

        What a great wish.

        Prayers all have slippahs!!!!!!!!

ETA: Where in the Pearl Harbor Area can people go and dontate slippahs they have bought?

Every year DH and I contribute to organizations in honor of our nieces and nephews, instead of giving them gifts. We have our regular places. But can always rearrange how the money is spent.

RoyalHawaiianMovers on Ualena Street has Boxes in their offices. Or I'd be honored to come an p/u even one pair from you and your DH. It's people like you who make the Magic of Christmas come true not only for the Keiki but for their Ohana!

I know it's for all keiki ~ but are there certain sizes and/or gender that are in greater demand?

We take all sizes from the smallest to the biggest.

              Size 1 to Size 12.

Every Child is important to us.

              Ooops! I re-read your question.

I take final count on Dec. 10th. I will know which sizes we need most
              and inform you.

Generosity is a wonderful thing, and I would not want to inhibit your thoughtfulness. But, it does bring a wicked smile to my face to think of some keiki running thru the park in their wool "slippahs".

But, I'm sure Auntie will find the appropriate child to enjoy the warm and soft indoor slippers.
Now run along and play, but don’t get into trouble.
