  • Supermoon

I awoke at about 1:20 this morning, and the light outside my window told me is was about 5:30/6:00 A.M.

I went around to check my clocks, and they were all in sync, so my somewhat rational mind informed me that there must have been some geo-solar event that changed our position in our Earthly rotational schedule -- or something. It was BRIGHT!

When I went outside to check on things, I was confronted with the largest and brightest Full Moon I have ever seen. As I said, it looked like early morning!

Problem solved. A quick trip to earthsky.org and I found it was called a "SUPERMOON," where Luna was closer to Terra than usual (in fact it is almost as close as it ever gets) and opposite the sun, providing maximum reflection.

Earthsky says that the moon in June will be even closer, and will give us quite a show.

Don't panic if you think it's sunrise.

      Howdy Kao .

I was hoping to film the Moon tonight but local weather conditions

      were not cooperative.

My little cheapie Samsung HMX-F80 has 52 x optical zoom and cost 137 bux.

On a decent tripod the results are stunning.

I was filming a golf game yesterday, and could see individuals at a distance of 5 miles.

      Use a tripod.

The Full Moon in June is on the 23rd, so on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th you'll get 3 more chances!

Interesting. I wrote that first message about 2am, yet the time on the message says 11pm! The time on my computer says 1pm now, let's see if it logs true.

It didn't. Is the HT clock set to Hong Kong time?

I can remember living in Calgary , Alberta when there were only two TV

                channels . Two and Four.

                Black and white.

In the afternoon at about one o'clock Carousel theater showed a Movie.

After that , a show for the kids came on with "The Colonel Lunar Show".

There was some narrative, a few commercials, perhaps a little three stooges

                and a few cartoons.

I still have my Col. Lunar club membership card.

Those TV channels were picked up with a large di-pole antenna up on the roof with a 300 ohm feedline.

The telephone line was a party line.
