There's more incidents of creepy people on the Bus even with a videocamera in the Bus. There's selfish bus riders. I witness one guy with a fake service dog bully elderly ladies so that he can sit in the handicap seats with his dog.

I think part of the problem of this report from KITV did not address which of the 2 buses involved in this accident should have had the seat belts for the passengers. Please bear in mind one of the buses is a school bus which for years have been the subject of having them install seat belts for the passengers. The other bus was a mass transit bus from TheBus, which to my knowledge has not been the subject of having seat belts installed for the passengers.

Also the report doesn't say of the people who were injured on TheBus if there were standing or sitting at the time of the accident.

Will the bus drivers say that the Bus is not moving unless everyone has their seat belts on?

They want more riders for The Rail.

            Re: TheBus news

There must be some serious privacy concerns if every frequent bus rider has to use the holo card. Plus the cap is the killer. More reasons for people to live in their cars during the daily commute or use another, non capped, cheaper alternative (if that is possible).
            I'm still here. Are you?

              Re: TheBus news

The cap is meant for the number of times you are charged in certain time period not on the number of rides you can do in that same time period.

Example, in the proposed fare structure for adults, the monthly fee for the Holo card is planned to be $80 with single rides being charged at $3. The monthly cap is 27 rides. For me, at worse case going between home and work is at 4 rides a day. So given 5 work days a week and with at least 4 weeks in a month I would be doing at least 80 rides/month. At $3 a ride my Holo card (which I don't have yet) would be charged $240/month. With the monthly cap at 27 rides, the Holo card would only be charged at most $81/month. I know there is an issue about paying $80/month while I be charged $81/month but having a slight extra balance of around $10 would be useful but that is way better than having around an extra $160 or so a month.

I thought that this procedure was always done before.

It seems that more people are using their cars instead of riding the Bus to avoid a crowd in an enclosed space.

Was there ever a reduction in vehicular traffic since the inception of HRT? It seems carpooling is all but a dead concept these days. On this island, I watch the traffic at various times of the day and count how many vehicles contain just one person, the driver. In almost all the cases, I can count at least 20 vehicles pass before a vehicle containing at least 2 people or more and those were County or utility company maintenance crews. Even State vehicles had only the driver.

It is convenient having a personal vehicle, along with the associated freedom. So I do see both sides. When residing on Oahu in my youth, my mom and I utilized HRT majority of the time, but lugging packages on a bus was just difficult. Yet, it was cost effective and taking a nap home was a blessing in the ever increasing heat. Traffic decades ago was already horrible.

the added construction has of course only made traffic worse. people cherish 'their' time and space sitting privately in daily commuter snarls, they won't give it up, and as soon as rail has an accident the ridership will end.

For the past few years my work place offered TheBus monthly passes which were deducted directly from one's paycheck. Prior to 2019 you could option it to be pre-tax, meaning while your gross pay would go down by the cost of the TheBus pass your net pay wouldn't bear the full cost of the pass. Sure it was nickel and dimes kind of stuff but if you think about it kind of added it up, a few bucks off from Federal tax, a few bucks off from the State tax, a few bucks off from FICA. I never bothered to factor it out in the $70 bus pass days but in the $60 bus pass days, it turned out that my net pay went down around $42 as opposed to $60.

Before COVID-19 hit they were planning on giving us the Holo card around the May 2020 time line but between TheBus saying that the April 2020 bus pass will be good for May 2020 and COVID-19 causing the workers to stay at home starting in late March 2020, they issued us the Holo cards in late March 2020 and also stopping the payroll deduction as well.

I was able activate the card and put in some money to it. I tried it out a few times just to get the hang of it because in about 2 weeks I will really need to use it.

As far as the privacy concerns, yes you can check on the web (via password protected) your transactions but it will only show where and when you got on. It does not log (because you don't swipe when you leave the bus) where and when you got off.

Also the Holo card doesn't have your name stamped on it, it only has numbers on it.
