  • Kids or Criminals?

As I start this question, a car has rolled up outside. It sounds full of the same kids, or criminals, that prompted the very question. It's nearly five in the morning, and I don't do drugs. Unless you count clarity.

The question is: "Should I call the cops on a group of kids I don't know but have been parked outside my house for two days and who do not appear to have any intent to leave or shut up before I call the cops?."

The forty of Mickey's (which I used to love) on the roof of the Nissan that looked like trouble might has well have been a yellow blinking box that begged intervention. It also hemos the parking. The tickets are excessively punitive. And good folks have been towed.

Now the rain falls. Say something to the ohana, be a pri*k, or ignore atogehter?
    Don't be mean,
    try to help.

You know what to do. Intervention. It might be just the wakeup call the punks need. Imagine. Who are the parents of youths who can hang out until dawn? Call 911. They are a nuisance, probably one or two underage, could be they just got done tagging some vulnerable virgin wall. Or worse. Be the grownup who saves them from themselves. Keep them from becoming thugs who seek prey for kicks.

I'll sort it properly, if only to be able to watch "Deadliest Catch" in peace. I figured I'd give them a day. They may be cousins of homies. But only a day.

I'm down with the strict. But not because it's my gig to look after the malingerers. It's because I have a home and its inhabitants to look after.

Why not just go out and ask them to not make so much noise?

Life in France is almost innocent...like back in the fifties during the midwest. Teenagers here are simply grown up children, trying to find their way into the adult world.

              Hmmm...

So am I. And I'm old. Enough to think I know, anyway.

But during the fifties in the Midwest, they didn't have car stereos that could shake grapes from a Beaujolais vine. Or even a plump, lazy mango from its stem. My neighbor's nice white truck longs for the days.

              Vive Le Difference!

Did I really say 'like back in the fifties during the midwest'?! Well...you know what I meant.

So...what did you end up doing to try and solve the problem?

Are there plants around the property? Smelling fertilizer or rotting food parts such as seafood spread in the dirt around these plants makes a pleasant aroma.

Speakers from your window with some really tacky music played at full blast.

I ended up going out and telling them that the neighbors would call the cops because of where they were parked (parking is a hassle on my rather narrow street). With open containers in their car, they ended up scurrying off). Haven't seen them since.

I did time in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas My dad was at the Army war college for a few years.

Actually, it was pretty nice...there is a wonderful stables and a foxhunt (scarlet coats and horns and baying hounds and galloping horses). Lots of cornfields and ladies in town with beehive hairdos and bright blue eyeshadow. And that prison is an awesome spectacle.

But it's all pretty much flat...no mauka or makai, unless you count maybe the Missourri river.
