    Natto.

Love the taste? Hate it? Other? What the hell IS Natto? Google-Fu it to find out!

    Smells great? Smells horrible? Other?

Looks like heaven? Looks like SNOT (hana baddah)? Other?

If you do eat Natto, how do you serve it? Simply on hot steamed rice with the Karashi Mustard and Shoyu packet mixed in? Add green onions (negi)? Tsukemono? Raw egg? Other?

Personally? While I'm not Japanese (if that's any surprise), I LOVE NATTO!!!!!!!! Natto love, baby! NATTO LOVE.

    Here's some visuals...

Other than the crude styrofoam plate in the second photo, the ume, Spicy Maui Takuwan and negi (green onion) really enhanced the dish!

That sounds interesting. I'll definitely try that!

Which has me wondering how Natto would taste in substitution of refried beans in Mexican style applications such as tacos and burritos.

Perhaps a "Nacco" (Natto Taco) or "Nattorito" (Natto Burrito)!

Speaking of which, if you're a Natto fan, you must try Gyotaku's ''Nattochos" (Natto Nachos; and I'm not making this up)...

Hey you know me Pomai, I'm on the NATTO bandwagon! Love the stuff. Mixed with mustard, shoyu, mirin, sesame oil, egg, and green onions all over hot rice!

          Re: Natto

I keep asking the wife about this. Why is it the Japanese have such a thing for "slime"? Stringy natto, raw egg, okonomiyaki with "undercooked" batter....neeless to say, I tried natto once and couldn't get passed the slime. Hmmm. Maybe gotta give it another go with all the extra stuff you guys mentioned. especially goma oil and green onion.

            Re: Natto

Maybe I should try this again.

When I first tried it many years ago (it was at a UH tailgate party) my friend challenged me to try it when he found out I never had it. I tried it. I didn't like it, but I didn't necessarily dislike it either. Then again, I was pretty much soused with beer at that time and I don't even remember (objectively) what it was like. All I remember was that I didn't care for it much.

So maybe I should give it a second chance.
