  • Hurricane Season 2007

Woo hoo. We've got the first named tropical storm of the season that might reach the islands -- Tropical Storm Cosme.

Alvin and Barbara came and went in late May / early June without really leaving the Mexican coastline... but it looks like Cosme might be approaching the Big Island in a week or so.

Of course, it's rare that an Eastern North Pacific storm actually gets as far as the Hawaiian Islands. Both of the damaging hurricanes of the last 40 years, Iwa and Iniki, were Central North Pacific storms. But it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye out on this one anyway.

Weather could get nasty later in the week
    Advertiser Staff

The remnants of the typhoon that rocked Japan isn't expected to hit the main Hawaiian Islands until Friday, and even then forecasters at the National Weather Service aren't sure how much of the storm will hit here.

    (Advertiser Breaking News)
WTF? The remnants of Typhoon Man-Yi are not going to swing back across the Pacific and reach all the way to Hawaiʻi by the weekend. Clearly some staffer wasnʻt paying attention and got Man-Yi confused with the up-and-coming Tropical Storm Cosme.

I luv following weather and trying to decipher what NOAA writes.

        Like this...

        ".UPDATE...
THE LATEST OFFICIAL FORECAST FROM NHC FOR COSME / SIX-E PLACES THE
SYSTEM NEAR 18.0N 153.0W AT 4 AM HST SATURDAY WITH A MAXIMUM WIND
SPEED OF 30 KT. BASED ON A 75-NM-MILE RADIUS IN THE NORTH
SEMICIRCLE...THE OUTER RADIUS OF 25-KT WIND JUST BARELY ENTERS THE
SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE GRID DOMAIN FOR THE MAIN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS...
AND THE ONLY OFFICIAL PRODUCT FROM THIS OFFICE AFFECTED AT THIS TIME
IS THE OFFSHORE FORECAST. AS THE WEEK GOES ON THOUGH...IT WOULD BE
ADVISABLE FOR ALL PARTIES INTERESTED IN WEATHER NEAR THE MAIN
HAWAIIAN ISLANDS TO CHECK THE LATEST OFFICIAL UPDATES."
Stop being lost in thought where our problems thrive.~

Where's that thread what we suppose to do in the event of a hurricane?

Are we ready for our next hurricane?

I was out running errands earlier today and the wind has definitely picked up. Dunno why I even bothered with my hair this morning!

Since I haven't refilled this season's hurricane kit with food (hangs head in shame), I hele'd on over to the ABC Store for a supply of snacks that don't require electricity. After the Canal House fiasco I'm super-sensitive to the possibility of not having operating elevators in a high rise. Once Cosme's weather has passed I'll most certainly have a carb fest!

I won't ask which part of the labels you read first. And I won't ask if you checked where the snacks were grown or processed.
                            I won't.
                            I really won't.

Rain and a few thunderstorms on the Big Island. Breezy over here on K-Bay and just a few showers. Probably damp and breezy tomorrow (Saturday) and then much nicer Sunday. This storm system is moving fast.

Labels? What labels?! The ingredients in the Li Hing Mango will probably kill me long before their origin!
