Looking for a good mix of Christmas tunes during the holiday season? Then tune your dial here...

95.5 FM KAIM "The Fish" Christian Contemporary (Honolulu)
Non-stop, around-the-clock Christmas hits from Burl Ives, to Celine Dion to Na Leo Pilimehana. Minimal commercials, except during the morning drive period.

95.1 FM KAOI "IFM" Hawaiian and Adult Contemporary (Maui)
If you live on the east side of Oahu, you should be able to catch this station quite well. Non-stop, around-the-clock Christmas hits. Minimal commercials. Wish they would include local groups in their playlist. Still a great mix of timeless Christmas classics.

I'd just as soon wait until about December 15th, don't really want an entire month of Christmas songs, groaned when Ala Moana Centre started their (pretty awful) tape the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Wow.. bunch of scrooges around here! Just kidding.

It's nice to be able tune into those stations whenever in the mood though.

If you're a rock fan, you could always play these Bob Rivers Twisted Radio classics...

        • I am Santa Claus - to the tune of Iron Man by Black Sabbath
        • Jingle Hells Bells - to the tune of TNT by AC/DC
        • Sled Zeppelin - To the tune of Dyer Maker by Led Zeppelin

I especially like the Sled Zeppelin tune.. "Ho, Ho, Ho, Ho, Ho.. you don't have to go, ho, ho, ho, ho".. Classic!

KPOI played a few of 'em recently.

KSSK AM & FM are also playing Christmas music 24-7 now through Dec. 25.

Listeners in Hilo will have a couple of opportunities to catch "Handal's Messiah" on Moody Radio's K220E0 FM 91.9 FM (90.7 cable) on Sunday Dec. 4 from 11am to 1pm and again on Dec. 25 at 8am. More info about their Christmas programming can be found at this link.

One of the things I look forward to at Christmas time is hearing that epic Hawaiian rendition of "O Holy Night" by Willie K. It's so popular it's almost too much, but at the right moment, it still gives me chicken skin.

A station I worked for on the Mainland broke out the Christmas tunes on Dec. 15 or during the first snowfall, whichever came first.

I guess that wouldn't work here.

Let me know if you hear anyone playing my favorite seasonal oldie, the Supremes doing "The Bell That Wouldn't Jingle."

Dang...iTunes Music Store doesn't have it. I love obscure Christmas songs. One of my faves is by Michael Franks..."I Bought You a Plastic Star for Your Aluminum Tree"! I don't know that I've heard it on local radio, tho'! Ditto for the 'out there' "Blue Xmas" by Miles Davis.

Willy K's "O Holy Night" is near the top of my all time favorites list. Like Ryan said...chicken skin!

                  Hello, everybody!

Follow this link to download this year's version of "Da Nite Befo' Creesmess." We've done this every year on 102.7, and it's become sort of a holiday tradition... much like running up credit card debt.

                      Hi there

We are arriving on Oahu for Christmas from England, and it will be strange not to hear some of the well-worn favourites played to death in the UK. Other than the 40s, 50s and 60s standards from Brenda Lee, Andy Williams etc, I bet most of yours will be really fresh to us. I'll have to see if there any Christmas compilations. One I must try and get on CD is Come Home For Christmas from David Gates (ex-Bread).

                        Paul
Here's my spin on this Christmas classic!...

                        Da' Grindz Before Christmas 2005

                        Was da grindz before Christmas,
                        so we gotta' have rice.
'Cause next day going get turkey,
                        way more than one slice.

                        We look in da' fridge,
and no more nothing for eat.
So we go Big City Diner
                        for some ono grilled meat.

                        We grind and we grind
                        until our opu stay foo'.
'Den we go Waiola shave Ice
and then walk to da' Zoo.

                        We stay hungry again,
                        so we drive up Kaimuki.
Now no more da' Drive Inn
                        with da' letters "KC".

                        So we drive farther up,
                        just past W&M Burger,
                        is St. Louis Okazuya,
a half block up on the corner.

                        "What will you have?"
                        The nice lady asks me.
                        "One order chow fun,
                        Tempura,
                        and Musubi."

As we sat down to eat
                        my cellphone had rang.
On the phone it was Santa
                        and his friend Mr. Pang.

                        I asked him, "What's up?"
He said, "Get da' 2-for-1 deal
                        on some ono Dim Sum,
                        Cracked Seed & Lemon Peel."

So I hung up da' phone
                        and finished my plate.
                        It's hard to believe
how much food we just ate!

                        So we drove Chinatown
                        and picked up our stash
                        of 1 box Manapua,
                        Half Moon & Pork Hash.

                        My phone rings again.
                        Now who could this be?
                        It's Santa stay grinding
at one place called Kim Chee.

He said they have the best
                        Kalbi & Meat Jun.
                        Kim Chee on da side...
                        Yup, das' da one!

                        Then we drive to Waipahu
                        to complete the day,
                        for Poke at Tanioka's.
                        Santa said he going pay!

                        Now we're all stuffed.
                        Christmas day is ahead.
                        Da' Kanaka kicks in
                        and we're off to bed.

                        As Santa was leaving,
                        He told me, "Eh Brah,
                        your tire stay flat.
                        Now go fix your cah!"

                          Christmas Music on Local Radio

Just a reminder to keep this topic focused on Christmas music played on local radio. There is another thread to discuss "favorite Christmas songs" or perhaps someone could start a thread within the Jukebox topic on "original song parody lyrics" or something like that.

Hot off the radio press... Just a few minutes ago on 95.5 FM The Fish, they played an old Hawaiian Christmas story as told by Lucky Luck! Amazing how local da' guy sounded, considering he was originally from Missouri.

I had so much curiosity about Lucky Luck, and found lots of information, as you can read in this HT thread.

Anyhow, the story they played came from a new (I think) CD release available in stores called Santa Goes Hawaiian. I believe they said Aunty Genoa Keawe and a few other Hawaiian music and entertainment pioneers are on there. So I'm sure it includes some old school Hawaiian Christmas music as well.

As if to affirm why I generally stopped listening to commercial radio long ago, they're playing the Muppets' "Twelve Days of Christmas" on KSSK. Again. Oh, my aching ears!
