    Capital One's NO Campaign

    CAPITAL ONE Credit Card

All of their "NO" spots with David Spade are hilarious!
Especially the spot where David's saying NO to a very irritated customer. Ends up, the customer continues to talk to David on his cel phone as he enters the their office. Spade then frames the poor chubby new hire. This football player-sized man chases the chubby new hire around the office, making him run in utter fear of getting his butt kicked. Great stuff.

I just hope Capital One truly lives up to that reputation of not saying NO to credit card applicants.

I've heard several people with EXCELLENT CREDIT tell me they were told NO by First Hawaiian Bank. And their slogan is, "The Bank that says YES"?

Has anyone seen the Dairy Queen commercial where a guy is licking off the beaters on a blizzard machine, and accidentally turns it on.

      Ouch... Thats my favorite..

everyone leaves the room in fear of exorcist mode vomiting.
        sorry....

That same couple is now in an ad for Sudafed. To me, they are pretty good actors. But the crap they have to act out, blech! I wanna see him get his mojo through the tire swing for a viagra commercial and then I wanna see her giving him that come hither look with a little Barry White in the back ground!

Ah, but it's offset by the money they're making so the 'crap' really becomes secondary, esp. when it comes to commercials! Two...count 'em TWO...national commercials running simultaneously? Holey moley! What fun it must be for them to check their mailboxes every 13 weeks! We should all be so lucky! Must admit, tho', that I'm very surprised that the same 2 actors ended up being cast together by 2 different advertisers. That's unusual and is usually avoided.

Have you ever thought of going to work for an ad agency, lavagal? Why not put that imagination to work for you?!

I love their commercials but that junk mail campaign they've been throwing at us for so long has gotta go. I wonder how many forests they've demolished in the process.

As long as banks or CC companies aren't advertising that they never say 'no' to anyone or always say 'yes' to everyone, they're within their rights to deny credit. There's usually a reason, sometimes one a consumer who has good credit isn't aware of unless s/he makes an inquiry. But, that's fodder for another thread!

I think the ads are saying they don't say "no" to cashing in airline miles... but anyway, of course they'll say "no," just like FHB will say "no," and just like how AIG just might take longer than twelve seconds to get your car fixed after a wreck...

I actually don't like David Spade, and at times he's like fingernails on a chalkboard, but the ad you mention (with the mad customer) is entertaining, if only for the girly shriek David's coworker emits as he scales the cubicle wall. The one where the coworker gets electrocuted by the bug he's wearing is also chuckle worth.

Oh yeah, the cavemen (Neanderthals).. those spots are HILARIOUS!

The one where they're having dinner with the insurance agent. That one cavemen dude places his order, "I'll have the Roasted Duck with Papaya-Mango Salsa".
Pretty sophisticated taste for a caveman! lol

When the waiter asks the other cavman what he'd like, he replies, "No thank, I just lost my appetite", then looks across at the insurance agent with a pissed off look.
                Hilarious!

What's funniest is how those spots portray the two cavemen as always being tested by their intellectual competence, giving you the impression that "it doesn't take much brains to know you should choose (Geico) as your insurance company".

I'm partial to those half-size bra commercials with Noemie Lenoir dancing to "I want to thank you for letting me be myself".

Ever since his start on SNL, I never cared for his comedy either. The Capital One commercial is an exception.

There's an impression in the TV and movie biz that if a major "celebrity" starts doing commercials and/or product endorsements that they've become "has beens" who are desperate for work (income).

Case-in-point: William Shatner and Leanard Nemoy (Capt. Kirk & Mr. Spock of Star Treck) doing Priceline.com commercials (great stuff B-T-W!).
Also Gilbert Gottfried voicing the AFLAC duck spots.

After all, when was the last time you've seen Demi Moore or Keanu Reeves do a Pepsi commercial?

Anyone have input on that thought?

There are many celebrities who refuse to do commercials. Those who do agree to them usually do so 'cuz they're worth a LOT of money for very little investment of time.

Possibly! My brain is currently chock full of local kine stuff so I'm afraid I'm not much help right now. But, what Kimo said about Japanese ads...they pay even more! Money talks in our industry. It always has and it always will.

Having been a former model in Japan, and doing my fair share of tv commercials there and in the U.S. (with Japanese crew), I'd have to say it's not totally off base. (I don't know why I'm reminded of this now, but I once had a make-up artist who went by the name, "Funky Chicken.")

Fortunately, I had taken Japanese in high school and picked up "useful" vocabulary so I'd have an idea of what they were talking about. Knowing Japanese for face, head, left, right, arm, leg, etc. were useful, allowing me to take a guess at what the cameraman wanted me to do. But translators are not always useful, as shown in the movie.

Japanese can be docile, as well as eccentric. I loved most of the crews I worked with. They were fun and had waaaay outrageous wrap-up parties.

National tv ads could take a few tips from the Japanese. I like the fact that the products don't always have to have a prominent place in their ads, or that it's not always evident what the commercial is about, or what the connection is. Here is a commercial for Hitachi , shot in Hawaii, with the famous "Hitachi tree."

Not sure if I read it somewhere, but it figures that this tree, said to be over 100 years old, stands as a symbol of longevity---which any company would be smart to use. Bob Krauss wrote about it in 2004, Tree Worth Singing About. It says there are over 500 - 1000 daily visitors to Moanalua Gardens to see this famous tree.

P.S. I like the slip of "Lost in Temptation."

Ok...so I'm not doing my part to keep this thread on topic and I'll agree with you. I think Japanese commercials are far more creative and innovative than their American counterparts.
