Default Re: Swine Flu

The origin of swine flu is certainly a form of flu.

the culture of the chinese mainland was determined in large part by the kind of terrain
that was to be farmed.
The south has climate with more water and the agriculture reflects that.

The Porcine genepool is close enough to humans that the large culture of porcines
allowed a virus to "jump ship".

The northern region was drier and created a very different culture.

Transmission of the influenza virus from pigs to humans is not common and does not always lead to human flu, often resulting only in the production of antibodies in the blood. Direct transmission from pigs to humans is rare, with only 12 recorded cases in the U.S. since 2005.

What we commonly call "swine flu" (keeping in mind that influenza is common in pigs) was originally an avian (bird) strain, genetically related to the ancestral virus that caused the worldwide flu epidemic of 1918 (with the strain now identified as human H1N1).
