Lynn, that looks so gross! Although I guess if I was going to have to eat sardines, that's not a bad way to have them.

What, there was no leftover chicken adobo?

My lunch was a snack-size bag of Cheez-Its and a Diet Coke. Vending machine food. Thinking about ramen for dinner tonight, but I work 'til 9:00, so it'll be a late one.

I understand about leaving stuff alone on the grill or in a pan-fry, but we're talking about something that's stewing, something immersed in its cooking liquid. It just doesn't make sense to me that upsetting the ingredients can actually RUIN the food.

If there are sugars in the sauce, at certain temperatures, the slightest movement can cause new crystalline structures to form, then clump and ruin it. Moisture can have the same effect, so sometimes movement will cause condensation to drop into the substance containing the sugars.

Don't know if that applies to Lynn's (or your friend's) adobo, however.

Shirley Corriher's book, "Cookwise" is a fascinating combination of recipes alongside scientific explanations of why foods and ingredients behave the way they do. I think you'd enjoy it, Scrivener.

That type of dish was eaten in the plantation camps long ago because it was cheap and filling and cans of sardines were readily available in the company store. My great-grandma would make it sometimes, but I never touched the stuff.

Co-worker purchased a Hawaiian style take-out lunch from some place. And a can of Mountain Dew from the vending machine.

Round 1 - Polish dog and a cup of Mountain Dew from the hot dog vendor in front of Home Depot (the sign says Chicago on it).

Round 2 - Beef stick and a bag of Combo's snacks from Best Buy and a can of Mountain Dew from the vending machine.

So, eatting a long the way huh? Even though it's probably "Chicago inspired" I like the dog from Home Depot.

Cordon bleu chicken burger with fries and iced tea at Twede's Cafe, the restaurant that was made famous by the TV series "Twin Peaks". Was too full to get a piece of cherry pie ala mode, though.

Then we hele'd down to Boeing Field to go look at the Blue Angels jets and "Fat Albert", their support plane, which were parked next to the Museum of Flight. The Blue Angels are in town this weekend doing their airshow as part of SeaFair.

Assorted cheeses (I'm on a kick again about trying all kinds of cheese, something I've long wanted to learn more about) - Doddington & Wensleydale from the U.K., Pastor Picon (a bleu from Spain), and Beecher's Flagship (made in the Pike Place Market), combined with mole (that's "moe-lay," not "mohl") salami from Salumi, which is Mario Batali's dad's small cured-meat company.
