Sunday
Seattle Seahawks at TampaBay Buccaneers
St.Louis Rams at Minnesota Vikings
Carolina Panthers at NewOrleans Saints
Oakland Raiders at NYJets
Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys

Week 15 Results, Stats, and Standings!
Okay. Now I'm only a week behind. As manoa helped announce last week, Mike_Lowery was the Week 5 winner with 10 correct picks. scrivener, manoa, surfingfarmboy, and oceanpacific tied for second with 9. Incidentally, the random-pick generator (whose picks I never posted) came up with 12 correct!

Complete results:
12 random picks
10 mike lowery
9 scrivener
9 manoa
9 oceanpacific
9 surfingfarmboy
8 nachodaddy
7 timkona
6 PoipuChick
4 palama kid
1 blueyecicle
1 lavagal

In the cumulative game after 15 weeks, manoa's lead is now 7 games with timkona and oceanpacific still conceivably in it, but it looks like that game is Manoa's, as long as he doesn't do something stupid!

140 manoa
133 timkona
131 oceanpacific
125 scrivener
122 nachodaddy
121 surfingfarmboy
114 palama kid
79 random picks
78 marco
72 mike lowery
58 nfl4evah
45 pzarquon
36 PoipuChick
21 extrascoop
10 susie misajon
8 blueyecicle
8 lavagal
8 SilverSurfer73

HT NFL Pick'em Week 16 RESULTS!

Holy minnow. As Bob Costas pointed out during the pregame (or halftime) show last night, visiting teams did very, very well on Christmas weekend. Costas suggested that a visiting team on such a weekend was all business, while home teams worried about gifts and getting home and stuff like that. Whatever the reason, you could have done very well for yourself if you'd picked all home teams, which is what PalamaKid did! With 12 correct picks, Palama joins the logjam in 2nd place in the weekly game. OceanPacific and Mike_Lowery take second for the week with manoa taking third.

12 palama kid
10 oceanpacific
10 mike lowery
9 manoa
8 timkona
8 nachodaddy
7 scrivener
7 random picks
1 blueyecicle
1 lavagal

For the weekly game, this means that:
  • If scrivener, manoa, mike_lowery, or palamakid wins, we go to a playoff tie-breaker to determine the weekly winner.
  • If anyone else wins, TimKona wins the weekly game.

In the cumulative game, it is conceivable that timkona or oceanpacific could pass manoa, but it is highly unlikely.

149 manoa
141 timkona
141 oceanpacific
132 scrivener
130 nachodaddy
126 palama kid
121 surfingfarmboy
86 random picks
82 mike lowery
78 marco
58 nfl4evah
45 pzarquon
36 PoipuChick
21 extrascoop
10 susie misajon
9 blueyecicle
9 lavagal
8 SilverSurfer73

Click here to see the complete Week 16 stats; click here to see the cumulative stats through Week 16.

Thanks for playing! One more week! In the next post: How shall we run the playoff if there's a tie?

In this post, I propose a tie-break system involving picking winners throughout the playoffs. I think it would be a fun, multi-week way to pick the ultimate winner. Another possibility would be just to take the tied players and go one more week in the wild-card round, with a straight-up pick'em. if there's still a tie, we go to the next, and then the next, until we have a winner.

Any thoughts? or are we all just going to concede the game to TimKona?

Actually, I picked all the away teams. But in retrospect, I should have picked the away teams the previous week, too . . . for the same reasoning.

With $25.00 bucks on the counter...there is no way in hell that I'm going to concede just yet!

I hope one of us with two weekly wins does win so that it gets pushed to a tie breaker...

and everyone in contention for the title will submit picks to me in private

However, is this tiebreaker then only between Timkona and the other person with the other cummualative winning weekly score then eligible?

I'd like to open it up to everyone... kind of like the "Skins" Game in Golf...

We push it to everyone that competed in HT NFL Pickem? Kind of open it up for everyone once again?

Just curious?

Yeah, I was going to open that up to whoever, the but results will only be meaningful to TimKona and whoever ties him, if anyone.

Then I guess the only suggestion I make... is that you start a possible new thread related to just the Playoffs.... then Maybe other HT users that aren't interested in the weekly pickems... might choose to play along just for the playoffs...since its a much shorter timespand....

and only a one time entry needed if it is a bracket that needs to be submitted only once.

I bet many people just skip completely over this thread now...so maybe a completely new thread devoted to this alone would be my only advice.

Does anyone know if there's rebracketing in the NFL playoffs, once the games have begun?

Not true. In many sports, there's a reseeding after the first round. I believe the NIT works that way...if it doesn't, they've at least discussed it. This way, if there's an early upset, the cinderella team doesn't have the benefit of the easy schedule that would have belonged to the favorite.

I did a bracket last season with a colleague, so I don't think there's reseeding, but I'll check.

I don't know... if you can find an example of a "bracket" being re-arranged....other then... ie; a round robin format...

were talking winner takes all.... how can things change in a bracket?

That's the purpose of the bracket... you lay it out..and see how things turn out... you don't twist and turn.... unless your dealing with losers brackets...

and of course...in our instance we were talking about the NFL playoffs where it is a winner goes home situation.

I can't see how a bracket could ever change unless a game ruled on the field was overturned off the field later on in the week?

(sorry...i'm dosing on percoset right now(

I'm still bitter since I bought a Jeff Garcia jersey in the offseason right before he got cut by the niners for not taking less money.

Plus, I still have a bet that the cowboys win the division, and I am a self fulfilling prophecy kind of guy rather than self defeating.

Add that to I have some faith in the leagues best running attacks vs. one of the leagues worst run defenses (minus last week vs. the boys), and I think you have a recipe for upset. We'll see on Sunday!
