The best pizza I ever had was at a place in Oakland Ca. back in the early 60's - it was made with shrimp & green onions, along with the traditional sauce and cheese. When I first came to Honolulu, I found a place at the old Biltmore Hotel in Waikiki who would make the same pizza for me. I find it interesting many of the people I know here in Hawaii have never heard or tasted 'clam and garlic' pizza. This may not be indicative of the entire population, but just my random talking to to friends and co workers.
San Francisco has many varieties of good pizza. You'll still find many many places using old styled wood fired ovens. Tomasso's is the oldest and still a great place too.
One of my faves is Golden Boy Pizza in the italian north beach section. Their 'clam and garlic' is excellent.
I would have to say my all time favorite pizza comes from Pedones Pizza in Hermosa Beach Calif. (los angeles county). It's still around and I still long for it.n'importeComment

Pizza eaters here are discouraged from eating it if it has Pineapple on it. Yet in your part of the globe, I had my pizzas with pineapple, pepperoni and goodness knows what else ?
Around the corner from me is a Pizza parlour ( Run by Algerians > Pieds Noir) I chat to them in their native French and always get a superb Pizza.Comment
