  • Granny Goose Theme Song?

Hi, my first post here. Signed up just for this question.

Can someone help me out with this?

Granny Goose (George Groves) used to play a specific song when he was on the radio.

Please, can someone tell me the song's title and artist?

    Thanks in advance!

Re-read message and might not be clear.

The song I'm looking for is his theme song which he played when he signed on.

Welcome to HT, MaukaRunner, and thanks for the clarification. I don't have an answer for you. Just a heads up that more posting is done at night on HT than during the day. Hopefully someone will come to your rescue in the nights ahead!

I do have a Granny Goose aircheck around here somewhere, question is where? Also what timeframe are you talking, 60's or 70s?

              Thanks but I don't think that's it.

I think it's a Herb Alpert Tijuana Brass song.

I think in the 70's since I was too young in the 60's.

              Pre 1975 for sure.

Instrumental song but he used to sing with the song and inserted Granny Goose in to a certain part.

I think it might be Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass but could be wrong.

Could you please listen to see. I searched and there was one post with a link to a MP3 but it doesn't work now.

              Thanks.

I remember several songs form Herb Alpert & the TJB were played on the old KGMB radio 590 on your dial.

                Like "Casino Royale" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb8A-85IamQ&feature=fvst

"Spanish Flea" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-_2QpbXMbw was used in the Dating Game show I think.

"Tijuana Taxi" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-t-g_msR2o this video is so dated...hehe.

Check out all the other Herb Alpert videos here. Maybe your song is one of them...

                http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...ana+brass&aq=1

OK... as I vaguely recall Granny Goose did the afternoon 2 to 6 drive time show on KGMB. Mornings was Aku 6 - 10 am (and parts simulcast to KMVI radio on Maui and KPUA radio in Hilo).... mid-days I think it was Dick Wainright, but earlier in the 60s was somebody else... George Kennedy??

Anyone remember the old DJ line-ups from KGMB radio in the mid and late 60s and early 1970s?

Michael W. Perry joined KGMB radio in 1978 I believe. I first heard him on the old KKUA 690 in 1972.

And we all know KGMB radio became KSSK radio of which it still is today... at 590 AM and also 92.3 FM. Clear Channel now.

                  Re: Granny Goose Theme Song?

DJ's on KGMB radio in the mid 60's would be Jim Hawthorne, Morgan White, Tim Tindall, maybe Bill Baist and Earl McDaniel.

Remember in between it being KGMB radio and KSSK for awhile it was KISS radio circa 1979-80.

I think they adopted the KISS thing as a slogan but the call letters never changed to that. There was KHSS radio at 97.5FM that played beautiful music in from 1974 to 1977 before it changed to KDUK and all disco and then back to KPOI 98 rock.

590 was K-59 for a long time too, but that was never their real calls either.

I think Mr. White went by Pogo Pogue on the radio too. He also had I believe the afternon "Dialing For Dollars" movie on KGMB TV.

There was a guy that went by the name of Agapito also on KGMB radio. Also Steve A. Reno in the early 1970s.

Not familiar with Dialing for Dollars on KGMB tv, unless it started there, but I know for sure it was on KHON circa 1968-70.

Regarding KGMB/KISS?/KSSK I'm not sure if there was an actual cal letter switch to KISS either, at the time there were plenty of commercials on tv that would say "Listen to KISS with the legendary Aku"....and then this huge cartoon lips would appear on the screen so yeah it could have been a slogan more than anything else.

In radio listings back then it would either say Pogo Poge or Morgan White, but on air, yes I think he was Pogo for the most part which is a name he adopted long before he came to the islands.

BTW-Got a letter from Morgan just a few weeks ago and plan on doing a story on him....

I look forward to reading the latest about Morgan White.

As for KSSK 590, the station only had one previous set of calls: KGMB

                        http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws....&Callsign=KSSK

KSSK became the call letters in 1980.

                          Mel,

Thanks for confirming that, then "KISS" was just a slogan for a couple years then. I bet it was already call letters for a station on the mainland.

Yep, I think there was or is a KISS on the mainland. I also vaguely recall them using the Kiss thing as a promo on KGMB radio... maybe mid and late 1970s??? They were K59 for a long time. Remember the K59 bumper stickers? There were plenty once upon a time.

Also back in the day when Heftel owned both KGMB TV and KGMB radio (AM & FM), the big tower on Kapiolani Blvd. also had green neon letters on it labeled "AKU".

In Los Angeles there is a 'KISS radio', but I think it is actually called KIIS?? For years Rick Dees was the longtime DJ, not sure what he is up to these days, but Ryan Seacrest is at the station now and his billboards are all over town that I saw in a recent visit.
