Here in Hawai`i, we average one tornado every year and a half, as you can see here in records from 1950 through 1995.
I recall many of those, and several since then too, including this one on O`ahu on January 26, 2004 (see photo below) and this one on Lana`i on March 25, 2006, as well as others. And that doesn't include several waterspouts (usually stronger than tornadoes) each and every year.
Write this down -- one tornado in Hawai`i every year and a half.

    No...

    You write this down:

You guys don't get tornadoes all that often.

There was a tornado 3 years ago in Milolii Mauka. Tore a path 50 feet wide through the Ohia Forest.

Any day that starts with my catching up on HT and reading this kind of chuckle-inducing posting is going to be a good one, I am certain.
        Thanks to both of you.

the problem with relying on the tsunami sirens is that about 30% of them dont work. there was an article in the paper after the oct 15th earthquake that discussed this....many are very old and parts are not available and many are faulty....when they have the tests.....this is what they learn... i think they are working on it...but they say it will be two years before they get them all fixed..

In that case you might consider buying a weather radio with SAME, or a EAS receiver to pick up alerts broadcast over the air.

I was starting to look up the Hilo Tsunamis on Google. Also, I was thinking I need to spend the $7 to go to the tsunami Museum 2 blocks away.

Somehow this will indeed inspire SOMETHING for the next CD.
Indeed, Tikiyaki. By the way, I second your notion of taking in the Tsunami Museum...how appropriate! I wonder if it will see an increase in attendance this week?

                  Good God, NO !

I'm a purist....I've heard a few folks spoil exotica with other stuff (mostly punk rock)...it don't work. It's meant to be background music...or as Martin Denny put it "Window Dressing"

There is a way to make Exotica sound threatening (check "Crossing Kilauea" from the CD), no need to use a Charvel through a Mesa Boogie Stack.

Metal....been there, done that, don't wanna go back.

Maybe just a little (ok, big!) universal nudge to impart the importance of a disaster preparedness kit...including a radio; handcrank preferred!

I have issues about the reliability of the handcranked ones.

Ok, I was just trying to stimulate some ideas of blending. "Threatening" is one thing, but how to convey the overwhelming force of nature?

If you'd like, I could call my ex-wife Plaintiff and ask her how she did it.

                          .
                          .

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

My guess is she didn't go for the handcrank method either.
