    Re: Trouble at the Tribune-Herald

the t-h has been looking for a biz reporter since april 10. . . nothing comes up for the s-b gig. . . curious to see how it goes, as everyone says hawaii is a 'dream job' but when it comes down to it, most don't have the desire/urge to move over here. . .

why is it that there are more SB posters on HT than HA?
Life is what you make of it...so please read the instructions carefully.

corporate amerika destroys the soul and prohibits free and creative sharing of ideas and perspectives.
        dass why.

HA staffers have the fear of being monitored every moment of their lives. It's something they live with.

We follow along, but seldom post. Frankly HT has become rather stale with the same old crowd talking about the same old stuff. Run an ad for HT in THA...maybe you can round up some new, more interesting members. I'll give you a good rate.

It's that type of snooty attitude at the Advertiser that turns me off... from sales execs to folks on the editorial side as well...

Aw, geez --- there goes our HT hipness quotient. If the HA thinks we're has-beens...now, if the Weekly does a cover story on how we discussed them doing a cover story on another paper's stories, well, it's time to fold up the tents!

Cue voiceover: "Don't think of it as 'engaging in a meaningful dialog with your readers and your community.' Think of it as a revenue channel." Fade in pretty red hibiscus. Giant Gannett 'G' drops from above and crushes it into a crimson puddle. Cue music. "The Honolulu Advertiser -- where every opportunity is a sales opportunity."

And they do mean every opportunity.

I'll be damned. Pzarq, I'd never seen that story before. That demonstrates about the poorest taste I've heard of in the past ten years. A sales pitch piggybacking on 9/11? If the general public had known about that, I wonder what might have happened to their circulation.

In case you couldn't read the whole thing, it was dutifully transcribed on Burl's website chronicle of what was happening in the early days of the "saved" Star-Bulletin. Very, very interesting stuff...
