  • Trouble at the Tribune-Herald

It's hard to imagine, but apparently true.

There must be some recourse for the fired individuals, don't you think?

A real NLRB with the interests of labor at heart might be inclined to do something about this, but I have my doubts that one that's owned by the current Administration will vigorously pursue any claim.

      Re: Trouble at the Tribune-Herald

That's why I buy the Honolulu Advertiser and the Star Bulletin at the Puinako McDonalds in Hilo every Tuesday morning because I just really don't like the Tribune Herald.

As for the quality of reporting...I'm not going to shine on Hunter Bishop either. A couple of years ago he reported on a charter school and got the story completely backwards. It took a more extensive story from the Star Bulletin to print the correct facts. But a lot of Hiloans only read the Tribune so they got a very negative viewpoint about this particular school.

No retractions and no corrections the day after that story was published.

The Tribune is major messed up and I think a major shake up at that place is in order. I'm glad they finally got a friggin Saturday edition out.

As far my thoughts on the HTH fiasco, it seems the management wants to drum out the union frankly. Firing all these experienced reporters for questionable
reasons really beg the latter observation. I've dealt with Hunter Bishop, in regards to Sandwich Isles Communications. I thought he was a good reporter.
It was unfortunate that he got canned.

The HTH has paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars in settlements and lawyer payments in their insane quest to destroy organized representation in the midst of a union town. They may destroy their own product -- and the Honolulu dailies would be more than happy to occupy that market niche.

About the only interesting reading in the Tribune is the Big Island Report where virtually everyone's name in the Big Island will eventually end up...oh and Dilbert! Headline news in Honolulu's two daily rags are sideline page 2 stuff in the Tribune.

              Re: Trouble at the Tribune-Herald

The Bulletin is looking to hire an experienced Biz reporter, so out of curiosity I went to www.journalismjobs.com earlier in the week to see if our position had been posted.

As of my visit, it had not ... but a position at the Hawaii Tribune-Herald was there.

                  Oh! I see your point.

The good news is that we're looking to ADD a reporter. Woo hoo!

maybe SB should just print all the posts from HT as a column. That would make for interesting reading.

Sheesh, Craig. You in favor of more outsourcing?

Erika, tell the S-B to think outside the box; hire an experienced blogger to report on business.

We'd have to start cleaning up our collective acts!

I've been very careful about what I've written on that blog for the past 4+ years, just because it's public.
