  • 2009 Rock & Roll HOF inductees

The Rock & Roll HOF has announced the 9 nominations for the 2009 class, 5 of whom will be selected for enshrinement. Since the artists cover a wide range of genres, this one might come down to the personal listening tastes of the voters.

Sometime soon, I hope to see the nomination and induction of NEIL SEDAKA into the HOF. This honor is long overdue.

      Sedaka certainly deserves consideration.

Here's my list of those who have definitely gotten snubbed:

      The Commodores
      Chicago
      John Fogerty (solo)
      The Doobie Brothers
      Quincy Jones
      Brian Wilson (solo)
      Steve Miller Band
The Village People (hehe, just kidding!)
      Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens)
      Paul Anka
      Genesis
      B-52s

I suppose Boston, Donna Summer, the Monkees, Darryl Hall-John Oates, Manfred Mann, Emerson-Lake-Palmer, Journey, the Moody Blues, Jan & Dean, Alice Cooper, 3 Dog Night, the Hollies, and Supertramp are marginal choices.

Yep, nobody rocked harder than Neil...

        This HOF is a joke.
Disco get's 1st year of eligibility nominations, but still no Dick Dale, no SRV, no King Crimson, etc.

JB, RunDMC and Iggy all deserve it for sure.

Re: 2009 Rock & Roll HOF inductees

            Who is JB?

Donna Summer, when did she ever rock?

RunDMC? For what? What on earth do they have to do with rock?
Yes, they did a duet with Aerosmith, and that should disqualify even Aerosmith from nomination.

Alice Cooper? Now yer talkin'! (Pre Muscle Of Love)

The Stooges? One of my main faves, but they never did anything while still a band to elicite popularity. Just like The Velvet Underground that so many are touting for having been SO influencial, in fact neither made a dent into radio until decades later when some started to take belated notice of their 'talents'. These bands emptied clubs when they played, and there were few patrons to start with, even in their home towns.
Now, that can show promise, but their day's of influencing the masses came mostly way after the fact.

Seems most of these HOFers had to have sold buku units to get a nomination. I have a long list of legitimate HOF 'for sure's' that will never be mentioned, because they didn't sell.
Uriah Heep rocked, and still are. They sold plenty, but they'll never make the hall.
Golden Earring? One of the best bands ever, and still are. They'll never see the hall.

Well that's a matter of opinion. Do the RHCP rock? What the hell is rock and roll anyway? What are its limits?

Anyone who feels the need to put limits on rock is not qualified to rock.

If Rock and Roll has to be explained...

There is already a built in term limit on Rock and Roll. If it don't rock, it ain't Rock and Roll.
And, we are talking about the so-called Rock And Roll HOF.

Rock, on the other hand, encompasses nearly everything.

Strictly speaking, no "Rock and Roll" was produced post 1970 or thereabouts. Everything after is "Rock".

Golden Earring. Greatest bands ever don't end up playing amusement parks.

Is Steely Dan in the R&RHOF?

Also, I too would LOVE to see the B-52's get some recognition.

Strickly speaking, Sinjin, you are SO wrong. The 70s rocked and rolled big time! Too bad you missed it!
Surely, you must have meant to place an 8 in front of that 0, as there were seriously few true rockers in the 80s. When Reagan got elected, life as we knew it, died. Lennon & Gabby also died, and very few like SRV and The Stray Cats became new stars and carried on in true tradition.

And yes, in stupid day's like we're living, even great bands get no respect.
Please tell me which amusement parks GE are schedualed to be playing. I'm dying to see them again! You should go.
