Palama Kid's strategy of picking all the home teams, while usually not a bad idea, just didn't work out this time.

Truss me, I realized that I picked only home teams - last night - during my review. I'll have you know that I used all of my prognostication skills and knowledge / history of the NFL to make my picks. They were cold calculated selections.

Now, on to this week's picks.


Carolina Panthers at Minnesota Vikings (CP has too many key offense / defense injuries)
Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins (Fish finally overcoming Ricky's defection)
NYGiants at Philadelphia Eagles (Eli's not coming)
NewOrleans Saints at GreenBay Packers (Bush not real; Favre is)
Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts (RBs have to produce more to make up for Edgerrins' loss, but Peyton's too good)
Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears (Dis could be anuddah shutout)
Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals (Johnson & Johnson: nuff sed)
TampaBay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons (Vick rules - great to watch, but I'm thankful they left the West years ago)

Yes, I took a hit last week. In fairness, we prognosticators can't be 100%, but four (4)!!??? Only consolation: dat was firss week.

So, I buried myself in my library to worry over the stats and injury lists & in combination with my vast NFL background, came up with my picks.

Huh. How about that? Well, it turns out the monkey/parrot/toddler sometimes wins those stock picking competitions, too, so my score was not entirely impossible. But improbable!

Well it was kind of a different week w/ plenty home teams losing...etc... and the first week of the season is always hard to tell what's going to happen.

Plus there were plenty games that could have gone one way or the other!

Out of my 5 losses their was a combined point total of 37 points...

(so basically an average of 7.4 points per game per loss... Scrivener...

By virtue of his picking the Chargers to beat the Raiders in the tie-breaker, pzarquon is the winner of week 1! pzarquon and scrivener are tied for the cumulative lead.

pz, by the way, was the only one to correctly predict that Atlanta would beat Carolina, and he was the only one to correctly predict that New Orleans would beat Cleveland. Palama Kid's strategy of picking all the home teams, while usually not a bad idea, just didn't work out this time.

It's a good lesson: You don't have to know jack about football to play this game!

If we were playing by percentages, Lavagal would be in first, getting 2 correct out of 2 guesses!

Uh...whoops.

I forgot about the freebie on Thursday night. I am the only one who picked Miami over the Steelers (Rothlisberger out, new QB in Miami, plus some good young talent with something to prove), so when I added up the scores, I just counted that pick wrong, which it was, but I also said it was a freebie.

So that puts me in an awkward position -- I would go back and correct scores for anyone else playing the game so that the freebie were accurately reflected, but in this case the only person it applies to is me, the person running the game.

Um.

I considered putting it up for discussion, but I'm pretty sure I know what the outcome of any debate would be. Fair's fair, and I did say Thursday's game was a freebie, and if I'm going to be impartial, that means exercising impartiality even when I'm the sole beneficiary. This is quite embarrassing, but I'm going to declare me the winner of Week 1, with 11 correct picks plus the freebie making 12.

Anyone wanna complain? Please feel free. This judge's decision is by no means final!
