Because the poop just goes right out onto the tracks.

I don't understand why people don't bother to read the signs that are posted in the toilets, saying just this, in a number of different languages.
I wondered why the train stations in France always smelled like a sewer, I just assumed people did their things right there.

They do...as well as inside the train. French men will pee on anything.

For the record, I would NEVER think of you, Pomai, as being racist or sexist in this case. I see this as more like getting people to recognize that there are better and worse ways to tell a story - sort of a journalistic editorial viewpoint, like when I taught journalism students about non-gender-specific terminology (using "Representative" rather than "Congressman" or "Congresswoman," that sort of thing.) Sometimes, I just feel a need to mention that certain aspects, while still utterly factual, are not necessarily relevant to a story - or may be more likely to create erroneous impressions, and might be better left out.

But I know you know exactly what I mean, and thank you for letting me go on about it this long. I now plan to spend more time admiring your magnificent photography contributions in other threads.

Does anyone recall the topical lyrics that were to be sung to the tune of Dvorak's "Humoresque"?

                "Passengers will please refrain
From using toilets while the train
                Is standing in the station
                (I love you.)

                Therefore we urge constipation
                When the train is in the station;
                If the train can't go,
                Then why should you?"

I am NOT making these up. And they get worse after the opening verse...

It's all good, Leo. Not mad at you. I totally respect your intellect and contributions here at HT. It's just frustrating how hypersensitive a subject becomes once any reference to race becomes involved. I suppose I wrote that "peeve" in the context of a police report, where such factual statements are par for the course.

I should've just said "this shmuck pulls up and dumps their cigarette ashes on the road".

While I won't say my photography skills are magnificent, I do enjoy sharing whatever shots I can get of interesting stuff. Like food!

My peeve for the day is just what it is. Monday. Ugh.

You don't have to say it - but I still will; the food-porn you post here and on your blog is wonderful. So, I should come up with a peeve, to stay on-topic...my peeve is that I can't get easy access to most of the great-looking food in your photos! Time for me to go get some lunch.

Why is it that it will be a perfectly beautiful outside all day, but as soon as I'm a good five blocks from my apartment, it'll start pouring down rain for the entire duration of my on-foot errand running? And yet, as soon as I return home, completely drenched, I glance out the window and it's beautiful and sunny once again?

people who, on a weekday, insist on driving 20-25 mph on kamehameha hwy all the way from hauula to kualoa, not caring (1) the speed limit is often 40 mph and (2) that there is a trail of almost ten cars behind them, of which probably 6-8 are people who need to get to town by a certain time. of course, i'm also annoyed at the first two drivers behind slowpoke babooze cause if they passed, the rest of us could have taken turns passing.

                                as the beau says, JUUUUUUUNK!!!

oh, we hate this on weekends, too. course, most of the time we drive that way is on weekends. we're shiba inu sitting. *woof*
