  • Indian Cultural Events in April!

    In addition to THREE Indian movies at HIFF that took place earlier this month, there are THREE different Indian culture-related events going on in April! Hope to see some of you Bollywood fans out and about for one/some/all of these!

    1. Bollywood Nights
    --April 17
    --6 to 10pm
    --Pipeline Cafe
    --$15 advance tickets (includes Gourmet Indian Bento)
    --Meet up at 6pm in front of Pipeline Cafe

    --Celebrate the Indian Harvest Festival of

    --It will be an enjoyable evening to meet and greet friends. There will be dance performances, Indian bento and wonderful music to dance the night away. This is an all ages events so bring family and friends! Don't forget the $3 drink specials, plus happy hr will be going on until 7pm (discounted drinks and pupus)
    --A limited number of tickets will be sold, so please ask your friends to buy early to avoid disappointment.


    2. Taste of Bollywood
    --I will be participating in a little Indian Fashion show for this event!
    --Thursday Apr 23 (Fri Apr 24 is SOLD OUT)
    --Kapiolani Community College, Ka'ikena Dining Room, Ohelo Bldg, 4303 Diamond
    Head Road
    --Seating at 6pm
    --$35 ($15 tax deductible)->NO TICKET SALES AT THE DOOR
    --Proceeds will benefit KCC's Culinary Dept

    --Four-course South Asian dinner with lively South Asian Entertainment; BYOB


    3. Art after Dark: "Fleur"
    --Honolulu Academy of Art
    --6 to 9pm
    --$10 non-members, Free for Academy members
    --"Last July, DJ Rekha drew the biggest crowd ever at the Academy—more than 2,000 of you jumped for joy to her bhangra beats. She had such a great time she returns for one night only! It's a cultural salad bowl this month. Can-can dancers will welcome guests at the Academy's entrance and in Central Court, DJ Rekha's music will transport you to the urban subcontinent. Find-the-Flowers scavenger hunt - test your knowledge of art with a floral-inspired scavenger hunt through the galleries of the Academy. A perfect score gets you a beautiful flower off the flower cart. Special thanks to Aaron Padilla for creating the hunt!THE LAVENDER LOUNGE (Banyan Courtyard):
    The Academy's own recreation of our favorite Parisian Bistros. Join singer Ana

      Wow, AC, whatta list of great events. A question...#2, the Taste of Bollywood at KCC...is the culinary dept. catering the event or are they not far enough into their semester to do that? That's one of my favorite restaurants when it's open.

        I believe it is supposed to be the KCC students (?) doing the food. I believe they did so last year too. :-)

            Loved Taste of Bollywood! The KCC culinary students did an incredible job with the food...4 courses of tasty decadence! It was the proverbial party in the mouth! Willow Chang's dancing was beautiful, as usual. And, there was HT's AC struttin' her stuff in the fashion show that featured Indian clothing in some of the most beautiful colors I've seen. You looked gorgeous, AC. Thanks for the heads up.

              Thanks! We only had two rehearsals and no dress rehearsal--so despite a few glitches, I was relieved that everybody seemed to be having a good time. :-)

              Tonight is sold out too.

                Bollywood Dreams will feature critically acclaimed, New York-based DJ Rekha, a henna artist, Bollywood-inspired drink specials, Indian-style pupus from 8-9pm, a silent auction, and full parking validation at the Sheraton Waikiki with a $25 bar tab. Festive attire is strongly encouraged.
