PUBLIC INVITED TO SIGN MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE FOR FAMILY OF PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN

HONOLULU - Governor Linda Lingle and Lt. Governor James R. "Duke" Aiona, Jr., invite the people of the State of Hawaii to sign a message of condolence to the family of President Ronald Reagan.

The message, which honors the 40th President of the United States and reflects on how he touched the lives of the people of Hawaii, the nation, and the world, will be available for the public to sign in the Governor's Office at the State Capitol, as well as at the Governo'‚s Liaison Offices on the Neighbor Islands on Tuesday, June 8th and Wednesday, June 9th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The signed message will be sent to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif., where the President Reagan's body will be entombed on Friday, June 11th. On that day, Hawaii will join the nation in observing a National Day of Mourning in honor and tribute to the memory of President Reagan.

"President Reagan had a tremendous impact on the people of Hawaii, and this heartfelt message from our residents is one way to remember and honor his legacy and to extend our Aloha to Mrs. Reagan and her family," said Governor Lingle.

Following the announcement of President Reagan's death on Saturday, Governor Lingle ordered all flags at state buildings to fly at half-staff for 30 days. Flags will return to full-staff on July 5th. Although both Flag Day (June 14th) and July 4th fall within this 30-day period, flags will remain at half-staff on those days.
