    Re: The 2008 Presidential Elections

RON PAUL was simply incredible in the debates. I've been watching every youtube video I can find of the guy. Love his politics.

That is a voice we really need to hear.

      Re: The 2008 Presidential Elections

Inouye endorses Clinton. We've had some discussions before about whether these endorsements have any value at all. PZ has made convincing arguments that they are increasingly irrelevant. For whatever reason (loyalty, payback, etc.), they still happen. At present this is how our local congressional delegation endorsements go:

      Sen. Inouye: Hillary Clinton
Sen. Akaka: says he will not endorse a candidate, but will support the nominee (duh)
      Rep. Abercrombie: Barak Obama
Rep. Hirono: no endorsement of any candidate yet

I did find it interesting that Sen. Inouye voted 'yes' on the Iraq war funding bill while Sen. Clinton voted 'no' in light of his role in her campaign.

At first Mike Gravel really appealed to me, but right now Ron Paul is winning my vote. So far he handled himself very well in the debates and under attack from people like Sean Hannity.

Here's some Ron Paul propaganda video I thought people might like:

The Star Bulletin published the quarterly list of large donors from Hawai'i who gave money to the Presidental candidates. If the general election were held today, Barack Obama would be a shoe in in Hawai'i (and money talks loudly in Presidential campaigns, unfortunately).

The most surprising statistic for me, was of the residents choosing to support a Republican candidate, how many chose GOP Sen. John McCain. I’d love to see one of our local political analysts try to explain THAT.

McCain's the only Republican candidate who has consistently gone on record as supporting the President on the Iraq issue, so it doesn't really surprise me at all, TunNL...remember that there are a lot of military families and retirees in Hawai'i.

                  "Follow the money"

Take a look at this absolutely fascinating breakdown by industry of the contributions various sectors are making to each of the Presidential candidates. Maybe it's time to reform how the Presidential elections are funded because the disparity among the different candidates has absolutely NO bearing on how qualified they are for the position of President.

Ordinarily your argument would hold weight Miulang, but the fact that Ron Paul is the most popular candidate among the military and their dependents negates your theory.

The article says that Paul has received more in donations from military members than McCain - but it also says that the amound of contributions are relatively small overall, and that that data (along with a cited poll) are "straws in the wind" and little more than anecdotal evidence - not a particularly strong counter-argument.

Stop saying "boo!," Susie - you're gonna give me nightmares. Besides, in a sense, Reagan never left.

I'd better not. "They" would love any excuse to get me into Guantanamo - I'm not about to hand it to "them."

Hey! I offered to take that bet back in post #66 but you didn't respond. I think you're just bummed because France has a marginally less anti-American president now. (BTW, love your blog!)

Back OT, Leo's right about that Reagan thing - one more Republican invoking the name of Reagan and I'll throw something.

I don't think it would be possible to be any more bored with this presidential election season. I'm usually a real political junkie, but I haven't watched a single debate. More accurately, I haven't been able to listen to an entire debate without losing complete interest.
