  • Ron Jacobs March 1977 radio interviews

I have been part of the documentary team Na Maka o ka 'Aina (HawaiianVoice.com) for the past four decades. Currently I am serving as an associate producer to Moloka'i filmmaker Matt Yamashita who is producing a documentary about Walter Ritte and his early activism in groups such as the Protect Kaho'olawe 'Ohana (https://www.quazifilms.com/awakening-ritte). My role is to research archival film/video/photo/radio resources.

I found a Wayne Harada column in an issue of the Honolulu Advertiser that mentions a KKUA on-air interview Rob Jacobs did with Walter Ritte on March 16, 1977. Apparently there was a previous interview a week earlier, during the time that everyone was searching for George Helm and Kimo Mitchell who had gone missing in the waters off Kaho'olawe. The date of the first interview would have been around March 8 or 9.

We are very interested in knowing if any recordings of those radio broadcasts might still exist. Mahalo for any comments or suggestions!
