    Peter Graves. He had that classic look and demeanor of the unflappable authority figure on 1960s TV, just like Jack Webb (Dragnet), Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (The F.B.I.), Robert Stack (The Untouchables), and Jack Lord (Hawaii Five-0). Sad to say, you just don't see actors like them on TV anymore.

                His brother, James Arness of Gunsmoke fame is still around.

                Heard years ago that Graves was dissappointed in the Tom Cruise MI movies turning his Jim Phelps role (played by Jon Voigt) into a bad guy.
