  • Gasoline Purchase Habits

I usually get gas at half a tank (I got a 16 gallon tank on my truck). As
I don't want to be spending almost 50.00 when I fill up. I'm curious what
others do when they purchase gasoline.

        Re: Gasoline Purchase Habits

I fill up every payday. My tank's 24 gallons, so it lasts between pay periods.

No Chevron or 76 (I don't like the families who sit on those companies' boards or have some kind of stake in'em) So, I'm forced to buy Shell on Kauai. Damn ethanol is robbing my small block of some horsepower (I was gonna say hp, but some Final Fantasy or Magic: The Gathering heads might not get it )

I wish there was a Citgo on Kauai. I'd buy gas from there in a heartbeat. ¡Viva Hugo!

I heard that its best to buy gas when its cool, so buying either in the early morning or late night is good, since the gas is weighed.

Oh, and when I used to drive, I found myself filling up every week.
How'd I get so white and nerdy?

I try to fill up before I drain it but honestly I forget most of the time then I see a red light and have a coronary because it goes about 20 miles on the light! But gas went from 3.00 to 2.43 in the last 3 weeks so I will be filling up tomorrow! Lucky me
Since when is psycho a bad thing??

I do the exact, same thing! It's a silly, psychological game I play with myself. If I fill up at a half tank then I'm spending only half...right?!!!! As long as I don't run a Quicken report on my gas expenditures, I continue to fool myself!

I had to have a chuckle on that comment. It is a silly psychological game

See for me, I buy my gas at Costco.I have my dad put money on a Costco cash card. It makes it last longer if I buy gas at a half a tank vs when it is empty . It certainly helps prices have dropped to 2.749 here in Kona, so I don't have to put more money on it as frequently.

Dang... if I had a "dad" paying my gas... I'd be driving all over the place all the time!

That didn't exactly come out right . I meant to say, I give him money to
put on the card. As only Costco members can activate and re-activate those
                        cash cards.

so why not get your own costco card and start out on your own?

Because I don't have a extra 45.00 a month to pay for basic membership for starters. It comes down to I don't really buy enough things (except gas) at Costco to get a membership. So at this point the arrangement works.

dang is it really $45.00 a month

Not... but no worries... do what you gotta do... sounds like a sweet arrangement if you can do it.
