  • R.I.P. Don Lafontaine

    http://www.etonline.com/news/2008/09/64990/index.html

Even if you've never heard his name, you know his voice. Watching previews in the theater will never be the same with the passing of this guy. Or watching TV. Only after his appearance in the GEICO commercial recently did I notice his voice was EVERYWHERE on TV as well.

    Great biographical story on youtube:

Oh wow. Movie trailers will no longer be the same. I always wondered how one guy's voice could be so pervasive.

You beat me to it, tvguy! Don was an extraordinary talent, able to "act" solely with his voice. He tended to have multiple gigs each day, traveling between them via limo! He earned and deserved that luxury!

      RIP, Don.

I had the great pleasure of sitting next to him on a flight to New York many years ago, and we had a wonderful chat. I have a very deep voice, and Don asked if I was in the business and went on to talk to me for hours about voiceovers and radio and so forth. Gave me his number too, though I never used it. He was very humble and nice, and I can only assume he was that way with everyone. He will indeed be missed.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

In a world full of trailer voice actors, one man stood apart from the rest.

          That man will be missed.

Now you need to create a MP3 of yourself reading that.
