On Molokai what OTA channels do you get?

      2, 4, 9, 11, 13, 14, 20, 26, 32, 38, 44, 56, 60, 66 - analog OTA Oahu; some are LP

      3, 7, 10, 12, 15, 21, 27 - analog OTA Maui

Can't remember what any of the OTA digital equivalents are/will be.

Re: KHNL Time Signal, SNL Blackout

        For Maui

analog 3 will be digital 24
analog 15 will be digital 16
analog 7, 10, 12 and 21 will reuse the same channels for digital.

FWIW, there is no app. for 27 to move from Haleakala or convert to digital, it's a LP so it's not required to convert. But the lack of a CP to move to Ulupalakua is interesting.

Well, it could be because of my dad's old VHF antenna (God Bless his soul, but he was cheap), I only get the first five Maui channels above.

This is on the Kaunakaka'i [town] side. Those on the West End -- like the nearly-dead town of Maunaloa -- may catch Honolulu's OTA channels better.

Hawaii's DTV Transition May Happen Sooner

            http://mobile.multichannel.com/index...leid=CA6603684

Washington -- TV stations in Hawaii are in serious discussions to make the digital TV transition on Jan. 15 -- more than a month before the rest of the country -- partly to avoid disturbance to the nesting habitat of the dark-rumped petrel near existing analog broadcast towers.

Re: Hawaii's DTV Transition May Happen Sooner

We've already had some discussion at this thread:

              http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthr...t=15406&page=2

The changeover to digital will adversely effect those people who have only OTA TV and are not prepared for the transition in time. The problem is that local and national TV announcements have consistently mentioned the February 17, 2009 cut-off date... and I think like anything else, a lot of people will wait until the last minute to take care of this.

Going OTA Digital earlier than Feb. 17 will catch a lot of people off guard unless very good notification goes out soon. Especially for the neighbor islands where this transmitter move is apparently being hastened.

It is possible that some people getting OTA on analog from the Maui transmitters may see reduced reception or none at all because the new tower locations will be further downslope instead of near the top of Haleakala. Also some stations on the VHF dial will move to UHF. Signals from UHF are not as strong or far reaching as VHF.

People with cable and satellite have nothing to worry about on this.

Erika Engle also covered this in today's Buzz:

It looks like the expedited Hawaii DTV transition is a "go"

What? Kaua'i not crossing over to digital OTA? I'm jealous.

Re: OTA DTV Continuing 'Technical Difficulties'

Kauai is served by low power repeaters and they are not required by the FCC to end analog broadcasting on Feb. 17, 2009. However, the FCC will eventually set a deadline for LP stations to convert.
Beyond Kauai this also affects the following:

                      Oahu-KHLU(Univision)
                      Maui-KFVE repeater
Hilo-KHHB and repeaters for KHET and KFVE.

KHLU, KHET and KHHB has apps with the FCC to convert the repeaters to digital, the other as yet have not.

                        Digital TV Over The Air

I've merged 2 threads on digital TV over the air into this one thread. The new thread title is "Digital TV Over the Air" and can be used to address all issues regarding the broadcast and receiving on digital TV signals over the air in the State of Hawaii.

The January 15 cut-off date for analog is official. Those who need to get the digital converter boxes for OTA reception need to hurry.

Now, if they can just stop airing those ridiculous national PSA about the February 17, 2009 DTV transition, and air something more locally informative...

Would be nice if Kaunakakai can catch K5 The Home Team channel 27(?).

Sweet. Now when will they start airing the new PSA?

I hope they would feature a spotlight about the DTV transition all over the islands and not just Oahu, Maui, and BI.
