  • arbitron vs. eastlan

    So what do you think?

the outerislands are having to rely on eastlan nowadays and some stations are really getting the raw end of the deal.

      Re: arbitron vs. eastlan

results of eastlan and arbitron were conflicting in the outerisland market. some stations did well and others, well. It just depended on which rating results you looked at.

        Re: arbitron vs. eastlan

Personally I tend to believe the Eastlan more- in that the survey style
is a more fluid day by day tabulation, rather than a diary that covers
        a whole week.

I don't believe that listeners (no matter how well they're paid) faithfully
walk around logging their listening habits every 15 minutes...

And even if they did? What kind of no-life people really keep up with
writing in the diary each of the seven days-

I think most people sit down on Wednesday night and just fake the whole
thing, so they can mail it out Thursday... wouldn't you?

At that point, it really only comes down to a popularity contest...
what ever your favorite station may be (you being a P1) will get
as many hours as you choose to fill in...

can you believe the story I heard, from someone who flew to the
mainland to see the actual books for their market and saw a book filled
out with 'round the clock listening to one particular station?...

You can see that a written diary is fraught with opportunity to cheat...

Not to mention the cost!... Dude- Arb rakes the stations!
        And I mean RAKES!

Not to say that Eastlan is a perfect system, because it probably still
falls into the popularity and strength of the Logo issue....

It all comes down to how hard the stations market themselves- be top of
mind- win the book... win the call survey...

not spending any money on giveaways? Not busy building listener
        awarness? Dude- you're gonna lose

        plain and simple.

How do you think KSSK has won all these years.

Convincing a sales staff of a radio group to not focus on just one of their stations, but to give attention to all ,can be a hair-pulling experience. on-air personalities can "bring the horse to water, but"...you know the rest.

Name recognition rates as the number one way of marketing hands down. And as Paul says...it all comes down to marketing.

            Hmmm Paul....

            Hmmm KSSK...

            Hmmm...I wonder....HMMMM

Did I ever tell this bunch on HT that there's this really great boss I worked under at Clear Channel back about a couple of years ago? One of the best PD's I ever had the honor of working with.

            Hmmmm...I wonder
