try this recipe sometime....... on guam its called tinakta. its groundbeef (or chicken or fish) with coconut milk tamatos , and string beans.

this is dumb cuz you probably eat this real often but its called something else. anway heres how fo make it..

cook the ground beef (or chicken) with onions until the groundbeef is 75% cooked. after that...... put in the coconut milk tamatos and string beans........ put lemon and salt and a little bit of peppers... the lemon and salt are key ingridients in the dish... use like 3 or 4 good size lemons , with as much salt as desired...

                  its eat with ....

                  rice

As noted in "new eats," I got to try The Mandalay (Advertiser write-up here), the new place on Alakea downtown where Yong Sing used to be. It's run by the folks who used to run Eastern Garden.

Instead of the much-touted dim sum, we ordered off the menu. Dried scallop fried rice with egg whites (tasty!), clams with black bean pepper sauce (perfect texture), and peppersalt shrimp (crisp and flavorful). Pretty darn good. But the food is priced to match the "upscale" digs.

                          1 order chow funn
                          1 lb. Chinese roast pork

Took it home, spooned a mess of noodle on a plate and slathered on the thai chile sauce mixed with shoyu and ate the roast pork on the side. MmmMmm. Pork fat rules!!

My turn for food porn! LOL. I made homemade biscuits and homemade Portuguese sausage stew. I would make Portuguese bean soup but the keiki aren't fond of beans. It was a nice cloudy day so this was really perfect. Anyway, on to my homemade goodness...

                            Da biscuits...

                            Da Portuguese stew...

                            Up close and personal...

I'm disgusted and repulsed, and I can't look away.

I like them bisquits just as much as the next guy, with plenty of butter.....BOT......where's da rice?

                              The stew looks totally scrumptious.

LeiKaina, my family isn't real fond of beans either (kidneys and limas), but I did find a way around that. I found a recipe for Cowboy Beans. Kind of like baked beans with meat. The wife and daughter loves the stuff, although my wife still separates the beans to eat first. Saves all the meat, gravy and rice for last. That's my girl! Just give the say so and I'll post it here.

Btw, this kind of bean dish is also perfect for camoflaging brown rice, which we've been trying to eat more of. Only thing is Melanie won't eat it unless there's somekind of gravy, which is where this dish comes into play.
