Here are some "NOW" (as in HAWAII NEWS NOW) mainland station branding examples...

KHQ, the NBC affiliate in Spokane, WA brands itself as:

    "KHQ6 RIGHT NOW"

    http://www.khq.com/

Or in San Diego, the NBC affiliate, KNSD is:

SD News Now (San Diego News Now)

    http://www.nbcsandiego.com/brchannel/SD_NEWS_NOW.html

    In Salt Lake City, Fox13Now:

    http://www.fox13now.com/

KATV, ABC affiliate in Little Rock, AR:

    http://www.katv.com/katvnewsnow.html

So the concept being used NOW, pardon the pun is not new or uncommon at all.

He got his jab at Joe Moore at the end.
You don't see posters on this site get in their jabs at each other.

With my DVR I get my news WHEN I WANT IT. That should be a news organization's motto...News When You Want It. What if I don't wan't the news NOW!
Life is what you make of it...so please read the instructions carefully.

Sorry to go off-topic but you mention Jim Vance, longtime WRC (NBC) Washington DC news anchor, when he and sports anchor George Michael lose it on-air, it is one of the funniest news clips I've ever seen:

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0eIN...eature=related

While at WJLA I experienced a lot from them, but Nance is acknowledged as one of the best anchors in our nation's capital.

          Aj
That clip is priceless! When Vance and Michael get each other going, it's hilarious. They've been doing that to each other for something like 20 years now! Thanks for posting the link.
No, I'm not the Larry Price, I just happen to have the same name.

And from Ian Lind's blog, On December 2nd, Media Council Hawaii will host a public forum to weigh in on the issue:

According to the second item in this column http://www.hsblinks.com/1a2 ... you MAY get a signal this week, given the FCC grant of a Dec. 2008 application filed by Raycom for the station that WAS KFVE.

I know a lot less than what there is to be known.

So, is it safe to assume they'll be beaming the signal from Oahu to Maui's Ulupalakua transmission antenna so I, from Molokai, can watch KGMB9 clearly?

Sighs. Can anyone care to explain to me ... AGAIN ... why the two stations HAVE to swap channels/frequencies?

After a while, I finally figured out what the best job in broadcast news is:

Not News Director, not Lead Anchor, not top investigative reporter, not even General Mgr.....

It's the all powerful, all knowing Consultant.

Hell, yes. Research Frank N. Magid Associates - they used to be a big employer in my old hometown, and every broadcaster would get a little woozy whenever we passed by their office.

                          Lol!

I remember one who was saying what a great gig he had, he got to travel all over the place on someone else's dime.

After he left I thought to myself, basically his job is to tell people what to do.

Then he gets out of dodge till he reaches the next town, rinse...repeat.

It's even better than that. He's not held accountable for failure even if his advice is wrong. Nope. That's an execution problem.

(This is an equal-opportunity canard. Female consultants equally culpable. Robots too.)

Yes I agree, but if you keep dishing out bad advice I think it would eventually catch up with you. And because of this your respect and reputation might suffer too.
