HONOLULU (AP) - Senator Daniel Inouye and Representative Neil Abercrombie are split over how Hawaii's undecided superdelegates should choose the next Democratic presidential nominee.

Inouye says the superdelegates should rely on their experience and initiative, not the results of February's caucuses. Inouye is backing Hillary Rodham Clinton.

But Abercrombie, who supports Barack Obama, says he does not see how the superdelegates could ignore the state's overwhelming support for the Hawaii-born candidate.

Of the nearly 38-thousand votes cast in Hawaii's caucuses, Obama garnered more than 28-thousand to Clinton's nearly nine-thousand.

Abercrombie and Inouye are among the state's nine superdelegates. Six of the superdelegates have either not been
chosen or not announced the candidate they prefer.

Sounds just like how the rest of us are split or undecided too.
What's mildly interesting about this is that it's indicative of a scenario likely to play out amongst the various superdelegates from now and on into the convention. If HRC continues on to win Pennsylvania by a wide margin as expected, she will have effectively won all the big states that a candidate needs to take it all in November. So it is not inconceivable that HRC wins the popular vote and BHO is most assuredly going to have more delegates. Inouye, ever the pragmatist, views his vote as being just as much about supporting someone he is loyal to and he may well consider more likely to contend in November as it is about making the people of Hawaii happy. Frankly, the main reason BHO won here by such a large margin was the fact that we view him as a "local" boy. I don't have a problem with our superdelegates splitting their votes.

And just to get the week started, an excerpt from The New Republic's analysis of the HRC/BHO contest Slouching Toward Denver, The Democratic Death March:
If McCain winds up facing Obama, he'll enjoy yet another advantage: a nominee weakened by attacks from a fellow Democrat. "Clinton hit a raw nerve several weeks ago when she said she had thirty-something years of experience, McCain had twenty- to thirty-something years, and Barack Obama had a speech," says Representative Artur Davis, an Obama supporter. The suggestion that Obama isn't ready to be commander-in-chief is "unusually corrosive," Davis complains. Indeed, when I asked various Republican and neutral Democratic operatives to name the most damaging twist in the primaries, most cited this same critique. "It's very good messaging--that he's not fit to be commander-in-chief," crowed one Republican strategist. "When you get the Democrats saying it, that's kind of the nuke in the whole thing." One of his Democratic counterparts was even more blunt: "It's one thing for John McCain to say [Obama's] not as muscular. It's another thing to have a girl saying it. It has some influence on swing voters."

    • The Barack Hussein Obama Watch

Barack should have his own watch thread since Hillary, Bush, the Iraq War and NY Gov Spitzer all have theirs!

Barack burst upon the scene defined a new candidate with "change" and "hope" in mind. He took many primaries but has slipped lately because of his alliance with his mentor and father-figure, the racist Rev. Jeremiah Wright. It certainly hit the fan a couple of weeks ago and Obama STILL hasn't completely denounced the reverend.

Obama's church, the extremely racist black Trinity United Church of Christ has given the radical Muslim Louis Farrakhan the "Lifetime Achievement Award" and both Farrakhan and the Rev. Wright took a long trip to see their idol, Momar Kadafi, the Muslim extremist leader of Libya.

Middle America has responded in the polls, showing Obama numbers slipping. At this point Obama can't try to patch and spin anymore. America knows what it knows and Obama is in trouble. He appears to be a phoney in many, many American's minds.

Obama's patriotism has also come under fire because of his refusal to put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem and his refusal to wear his American Flag on his lapel like all other Senators.

He is also the most extreme liberal Senator in Congress. Granted he gives good speech but it's not words that count, any car salesmen has dialog down pat. It's a person's character and his track record that defines him.

      What do you think?

          What mud-slinging?

If you don't use the media for your source of info, where do you get it?

          • Hillary stumbles big time

She blew it with her BS about ducking bullets in Basnia years ago, maybe putting the final nail in her '08 coffin. How stupid.

And fear-mongering (the infamous "3e am call in the morning" ad). If I didn't know her, I thought she was running as a Republican presidential candidate.

FWIW, at least the media got it right, mainly for CBS News, who reported on an embellishment former First Lady Ms. Clinton made about "braving sniper fire in Bosnia" with her daughter, Chelsea.

Frankly, I don't know who's more "lolo," Barack who can't denounce and leave his longtime pastor, or Hillary who can't leave her longtime husband?

Another interesting development: Longtime Clinton advisor James Carville refuses to apologize for comments directed at Bill Richardson, comparing the New Mexico governor to Judas Iscariot for his decision to endorse Barack Obama.

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said he didn't agree with Carville's comment. But I don't think that goes anywhere near enough to resolving this situation. Hillary herself should say something about it and to denounce or distance herself from Carville. If not, she risks alienating the Hispanic vote.

This is an example of the chipping away that the candidates are doing to each other during this campaign. From the HRC camp they are smarting about BHO's advisor Ret. Gen. McPeak who (bizarrely to my mind) compared Bill Clinton to McCarthy. No repudiation from the candidate himself about this. So the next turn it's Carville calling Richardson a "Judas". HRC is not going to denounce this just like BHO didn't denounce McPeak.

Regarding the Hispanic vote, Richardson's endorsement is a little late for that to have much impact at this point in the primary season. All of the primaries with significantly large Hispanic populations are long done.

The danger this all poses to the Dems, and it is still early yet, but if HRC and BHO don't impose some serious discipline on their surrogates, they risk wounding each other so deeply that their respective supporters stay home this November. In a broader perspective, if neither of them can manage their camps properly, it doesn't bode well for public perception that either one is capable of running the country.

The difference, though, being that James Carville has had a significantly higher national profile than Tony McPeak over the last 16 years. From being Bill Clinton's key strategist in the breakthrough 1992 presidential campaign, Carville's gone on to become a talking head for CNN, an author of several best-selling books, and even taking on acting roles in several movies and even TV comercials. Like it or not, he and his Billy Bob Thornton-like appearance (tall man with a bald head and glasses) have been closely intertwined with the Clintons in the public mind.

But it's not too late for Dems to worry about the impact Carville's statements could have on how Hispanics will vote come General Election day. How can Hillary Clinton make a convincing case to the Democratic superdelegates that she is the more electable candidate if her Hispanic support base starts to erode?

First off the media is just one maybe two persons who wrote and then edited a single story of concern. Like anything that story is subjective by nature.

One person's article in a major news publication can sway public opinion simply because the "Media" said so. Just look at good old Rush Limbaugh. One person's opinion and it's got a whole bunch of Democrats all pissy.

Just look at how Clinton was able to turn the tide on Obama! She USED the media, basically gave them food for thought and let the journalists spin them whichever way they wanted. She's just another Rush, the difference is that she's a Democrat but she used the media to convey her differences between her and Obama.

What other ways are there to gather information? How about research. How about going to the source and making your own assessments. Those who rely on the media are only seeing one perspective. That's why the war in Iraq seems so dismal. Nobody likes to report on the good things about what's happening there such as schools, hospitals, churches (even Christian churches) being rebuilt in Iraq. Nobody likes to report on the reclaimation efforts going on successfully over there. Why? BECAUSE IT'S BORING!! And boring news doesn't bring in the ratings!

News from any media publication or broadcast is NOT the definitative picture of what's happening somewhere else. Definative is when you realize for yourself what's going on.

Media is just supposed to report on the facts. Then with facts in hand, you make the call. When a journalist starts to interject with stuff like, "There seems to be a trend" or, "The popular attitude so far has indicated support for..." That's interjecting one's one observation and tainting any fact. That is not objective journalism. I honestly don't believe there is a thing called Objective Journalism.
