  • Free Toys for Tots Holiday Concert Dec 10

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10th, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific and BAE Systems, a worldwide partner of the USO, will proudly present Na Mele o na Keiki, “Music for the Children,” at the Neal S. Blaisdell Concert Hall. This very special Toys for Tots Holiday Concert will feature the world renown U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band performing your favorite holiday songs. A number of notable guest artists have graciously volunteered their time and considerable talents to make this evening even more special by performing with the band, including master and mistress of ceremonies, Mr. Danny Kaleikini and Miss Carole Kai. Also performing with the band will be Hawaii’s own American Idol finalist, Jasmine Trias….jazz and blues guitarist Chris Vandercook…..the world famous Honolulu Boy Choir……ukulele wizard Jake Shimabukuro….and Honorary Marine Corporal Jim Nabors.

But what makes Na Mele o na Keiki so very special is the fact that tickets for this concert will be free. They’ll be available beginning next Friday November 21st at the Blaisdell Center Box Office; there will be a limit of four tickets per person. The Marine Corps is putting on this concert to share their aloha with the community that does so much to support them, and also to raise awareness of the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program here in Hawaii.

Marines will be on hand the evening of the concert to accept any donations that guests at the concert may wish to bring. The goal this year is to collect 40,000 new, unwrapped toys, and it’s very important that everyone understand that every toy and every dollar donated to the program here in Hawaii to purchase toys stays in Hawaii to help make the holidays brighter for our less fortunate keiki.

None of this would be possible without the great generosity of Toys for Tots' corporate sponsor, BAE Systems, which is underwriting the cost of this event.

The national Toys for Tots program is in its 61st year, and in that time, they’ve collected more than 370 million toys which went to more than 173 million children nationwide. Since 1996 alone, the Toys for Tots program here in Hawaii has collected nearly 600,000 toys and another $340,000 to purchase toys, all of which have gone to more than 370,000 of Hawaii’s children. The Salvation Army here in Hawaii has handled this distribution end of the Hawaii Toys for Tots program for more than ten years, and they’re on board again this year.

Toy drop-off boxes will begin appearing in a number of local businesses in the next week or so, and you will be able to find a complete listing of those sites on the web at toysfortots.org by clicking on the drop-off sites tab and searching by state. Toys-R-Us at Pearl Ridge Centers already has a drop-off box in their store, and collections are well under way there.

Just a few of the other businesses that will be serving as drop-off sites very soon include 24-Hour Fitness, Hawaiian Telcom stores, Territorial Savings and Loan Branches, Bank of Hawaii branches, the Build-a-Bear store at Ala Moana Center and Honolulu Hale.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to answer them as quickly as I can.

    Mahalo!

Folks, a bit of news regarding the show -- we're pleased to announce that the lovely and very talented Ms. Anita Hall, who was recently a featured performer at the Hawaii Romance Festival, will be a part of our show! One of the numbers she'll be performing is from her new record which comes out Nov. 28th, "Send Love." We are delighted that she's going to be a part of this great evening of entertainment, and we're fortunate to have her on board in support of Toys for Tots.

As of 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 5th, fewer than 100 tickets remain available at the Blaisdell Box Office for this event! The Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program is profoundly grateful for the outpouring of public support for this landmark event, which promises to be a wonderful evening of entertainment.

I just wanted to send out a big "mahalo" to everyone who came out for last night's concert at the Blaisdell, and to all our guest artists who contributed so much to making the evening special. The toys collections from last night should go a long way toward helping Toys for Tots meet its goal of 40,000 toys this year.
