Probably not. It was the resulting full force "rescue" operation that brought all the attention and expense.
Now run along and play, but don’t get into trouble.

Balloon Boy dad Richard Heene sentenced to 90 days jail, mom gets 20 days

Richard Heene, who orchestrated the Balloon Boy hoax that transfixed the nation in October, was sentenced this morning to 90 days in jail and four years probation.

      ---
His wife, Mayumi Heene, was sentenced to 20 days alternative jail time and four years probation because Schapanski said she was "less involved" in the hoax

In addition to the jail time, they'll both have to public letters of apology, pay back restitution to the estimated tune of $47,000, perform community service, and be on supervised probation for 4 years. Good ruling, Judge! The jail time for both parents was the way to go in creating a deterrent for any copycats out there who are contemplating similar publicity stunts to gain their 15 minutes of fame.

I also like the judge's stipulation that the probation will be revoked if it is discovered that the Heenes try to profit from the stunt. That means no cashing in on any book, TV, movie, or any other deal related to the hoax.

The sentence not only sends out the right message to the rest of the public, but in particular, it sends the right message to the 3 Heene boys. What their parents did was very wrong. And for that, mom and dad will have to be punished. The jail time will be spaced out in a way that will allow for one parent to be home while the other is incarcerated.

Good going, Judge. We certainly need someone like you in our state.

Would it be a hoax if the jail he's in rises up in the air and then flies away?

I read in the HA or SB recently that daddy Heene had been released, but nothing to link so far in a search.

Will this be a hoax with parental guidance?
