Re: Large Housing Group ousts all poor Folk

Within Bellevue, Seatlle and unincorporated King County this act is
    clearly illegal.

Recently the city of Redmond city council voted this type of abuse illegal.

The occupants are being forced out on the basis of their last

    lease renewal.

This means some renters have a month or so to get out and others

    have till Christmas.

This fact alone gives a certain advantage to some renters .

I edited the wikipedia entry on Security Properties Inc and the edit was removed in less than two hours.

If the city of Issaquah decides to have some courage they can help boot out these robber barons.

Some of the dynamics of evicting the poor and vulnerable are addressed by Charles Dickens.

      Amati,

Yes , the complex has stopped participating in the Section 8 program.

A very small amount of section 8 housing is available in the Issaquah area.

The young disabled child has had Superb support from the school district.

A major factor in re-location is the fate of the Children.

The young keiki will face great fear if placed in another school system.

As the economy gradually improves, some at ownership level have

decided to improve their lot at the expense of the most helpless.

Re: Large Housing Group ousts all poor Folk

I found this in an MHN ONLINE article:
Security Properties is focusing on serving the Echo Boomer market by concentrating its development activities in what it calls “24/7 global gateway cities,” primarily in the West Coast, that feature “a variety of transit-oriented, mixed-use neighborhoods,” including Seattle, San Francisco, Portland and Chicago. The 40-year-old company, which has acquired or developed over 64,000 housing units, currently has in its development pipeline two market-rate high-rise apartment projects in downtown Seattle, 815 Pine and Kinects. “The focus of our development activities is on urban downtown locations,” says Orehek. The company targets the other large demographic, the immigrant population, on the acquisitions side.
I will make the jump that Section 8 housing is not where they put their development efforts. It brought to mind the mid-2000 event where something like 217 low-income units were torn down in Kailua (Oahu) to make room for new more expensive condos.
Now run along and play, but don’t get into trouble.

Perhaps there is a silver lining for you .... you are headed to a new housing adventure, in a very nice apartment.

I hope the other residents are able to resettle with little stress.
Now run along and play, but don’t get into trouble.

I have gotten the Women and Children out first.

I am still living in the same spot.

My own move would invoke strategic weakness at this time.

Sorry to hear about what's happening to you and your community, Lensperson

It's sad to see what happens to people who can't defend themselves (legally/politically).

Reminds me of how property owners use artists to "revitalize" slums and then kick them out once property values go up. Unwitting shock troops of gentrification.

Best wishes to you and yours.

Nothing is happening to me, but my dearest neighbors are being tossed around like case specimens.

This morning I was served notice that I am being terminated.

Several others in the complex were given the same marching orders.

Seems strange that the majority of those being tossed out are either Black or LGBT.

Twelve more occupants were disposed of.

I was told that these folks were overheard saying those

people are scum and we need to get rid of them.

24 out of 124 units have now been booted.

                          Packing rapidly.
If not out soon , the complex will charge one hundred dollars per day.

Moving three familys out at once is a challenge but because of support from the community we we will emerge better organised and a little bit wiser.

I was over at the managers office and they were talking about renting my apartments for 1700 smackeroos each.

A jump of over 300 dollars per month.

Lord help those those that live in the Issaquah flood plain for the long haul.

I'm under the impression that the owner/management company is within the constraints of the lease(s), but that does not make it any less distruptive for those who must move.

Kao I have carefully researched the legality of the apartments actions.

They are allowed full freedom to do this.

Amati, I am trying to make the best of this extremely trying situation.
I appreciate your attention to this matter.

                                I really do.

I am not a quitter and what I have learned is worth the pain.
