  • The 2008 Honolulu Marathon

Another reason to live in the country...

Were you too again awaken in town at 5am this Sunday morning by major fireworks, while hoping to sleep in, so a thousand runners can start plodding off in the rain for miles, all for a silly marathon race?

Kinda makes one think of sticking a foot out in the way of the front runner and tripping up the whole lot of them..., or suggesting that from now on, those that think this rudeness is so great, stick the pyros where the sun never shines, and light them off.

It makes me want to say, "Welcome to Hawaii! Please keep spending lots of money here, and keep coming back!"

The Honolulu Marathon is good for our ailing economy. No doubt about it.
      I'm still here. Are you?

        Re: 5am boom-a-thon

Our own Lucy from Canada came to participate in it. Getting up early is such a small price to pay to help the economy. I know of other Local people running in the Marathon. I'm excited and proud for them. I wish I could.

where were you at 3 am when *I* was up getting ready to SPEED WALK the 10k? Who was up and shaking her a$$ outside in the nice rain while one was (*%(&^(&^ in his bed and not doing much???

Oh btw.. here's a video for you that I would LOVE for you to watch. Please let me know your opinion on it

          http://good-times.webshots.com/video...ost=good-times

It was a great event, even with the small rain but it made it cooler than all the heat and humidity. I was glad to be part of it, even just for the 10k walk. Wished I could run again but alas, my shins would not forgive me LOL

Before the race/After the race pics of me !

p.s. my time was ruffly 1:22:30.. yeah

Probably around Aloha Tower area. At least that's where the usual starting line is. It wakes me up too, but I know what it is and just go back to sleep. Happy that at least I'm in a nice comfortable bed while a bunch of crazies are out there running.

My boyfriend did the marathon this year too...his second one, if you don't count Kona Ironman.

Congrats to all participants, and hope you ran/walked well and without (too much) pain--I love events like this which seem to bring out a lot of positive energy from both the runners/walkers and their supporters.

The inconvenience of roadway blockage for one day is totally worth it! People should walk more anyway.

certainly one of the busiest weekend I ever worked on Oahu, man do runners LOVE their starch! Arancino was packed, with hours worth of wait.

Good money, great revenue, and they are all gone with in a couple of days.

I admire anyone and EVERYONE who runs, no matter the distance. I wished my shins would let me run again.. maybe one day ! No pain, just a bit of tightness right behind the knee where it folds, if that makes sense, but it went good.. and i didnt even train for it LOL.. but im already in good cardio shape and did a 10k walk at the Montreal marathon I think it was in sept. 2005. I didnt run/jog any part of it, even if i wanted too, 1. my shins wouldnt like it and 2. i didnt have a good enough pair of running shoes to run... el cheepo at Zellers (like a Walmart store we have in Canada).

An ironman huh ? now THAT I would totally die to see one day....

Darn this means I have to come back to Hawaii within 2 or 3 years LOL Greet you with my presence again

It was turtlegirl who gave her congrats but I'll give mine to everyone as well. A marathon isn't something I could ever do.

So the fireworks were just down the street from me and I slept through it. If you live in the city you get used to noise -- if not, you wake up cranky!
