  • Phobias

Today I had to help someone try to find research on fruit phobia. Not just an adversion to fruit, but an honest-to-God phobia of fruit. And there are other people out there with the same thing.

So- I was wondering if anyone else had an unusual phobia.

Yes, I have one against telephones. It has gotten increasingly worse in recent years and I now find myself almost incapable of using the things. Thank goodness for email!

      Re: Phobias

I'm afraid of balloons. Seriously. I can't stand to be around them. When I was in school and we'd have to do something with them, I'd go to the bathroom and hang out in there until class was over. If I went to a birthday party and there were balloons there, I'd make my mom take me home. Even now I put as much distance between myself and the creepy, creepy things and sort of keep my fingers by my chin, trying really hard to quell the impulse to stick them in my ears.

I won't blow them up either. Or touch them. Or even handle a bag of deflated ones. I think a balloon stomp would be one of my worst nightmares.

So there's my dirty little secret!

So, SG, I couldn't have talked you into being my assistant during the casting session for balloon twisters?

            Re: Phobias

Well actually, I am afraid of everything, but it's because I'm a wimp -- no real phobias. But fruit? Is this a fear of eating fruit? or touching it? Maybe I should be afraid of this, too.

                  Re: Phobias

I've always called it... "A fear of failure" but after reading Imperfection above, I think that's closer to the truth. I really have to push myself to start any new project and 'Just do it'.
Latest example: I have everything needed to wire in my outboard's electrical system, but haven't started doing it yet.

My wife, not really understanding, described me to a friend long ago saying, 'He's slow but good'. She was talking about a house project at the time.

I can actually get sick to the stomach sometimes over it. Oh well.

You're not alone! I bought a vacuum cleaner cover that looks like a clown. So cute and so creative. It had a dual purpose in my old office. #1 was the obvious...it disguised the vacuum. But I chose the clown because I often audition children and I thought it was perfect to set next to the camera so the kids could direct the answers to my questions to the clown. For the most part it was a good idea but I had no clue that some kids have clown phobias! We quickly learned to ask the parents prior to the kids entering the studio!!! I, in no way, wanted to permanently scar a child's life due to clown karma!

I don't have a phobia, but I DO NOT like clowns either! Yikes!

I was not on the plane... someone else's photo... Aloha Airlines.... 737-200.... those planes were old... fuel inefficient.... one of the factors causing the airline's demise.
