Re: Too bad I wasn't an executive with AIG

You're not getting the analogy. Figures.

Re: Too bad I wasn't an executive with AIG

What you're doing is like trying to separate the Luftwaffe who flew FW-190s from the SS who ran the concentration camps. There were lots of good Germans in that mess, but if they wore the uniform,...

Re: Too bad I wasn't an executive with AIG

If you're going to call me an ignorant babooze, then I'll say that you're a near-sighted jackass. Doesn't matter how large the corporation is or how many divisions there are. It's still the same...

Re: Best way to kill everything growing?

If you're not going to build or plant on it, you might not want to tear out everything. Just keep it trimmed low and keep the current vegetation in place to prevent erosion.

If you're going to...

Re: Too bad I wasn't an executive with AIG

Of course if AIG paid me a "retainer fee" as generous as they paid those execs, I might change my mind! :D

Re: Too bad I wasn't an executive with AIG

No matter how you slice it, it's still AIG.

If you refuse to buy Chicken McNuggets because the chickens are treated inhumanely, would you still buy a Big Mac? Different farms, right?

The point...

Re: Too bad I wasn't an executive with AIG

Not bad compensation for a group of people who totally screwed up.

My auto insurance is with AIG, but I'm switching to a different carrier because of this.

Re: Hawaii Superferry - Chapter 9

An exec order has the force of law. And 9066 was unconstitutional. That's well beyond dubious. Unless you don't mind being rounded up for being of a particular racial extraction, having everything...

Re: R.I.P. Natasha Richardson

Professional fighters and other full-contact atheletes (football players for example) can also develop long-term brain damage from impacts that might seem relatively harmless.

In the short term...

Re: Hawaii Superferry - Chapter 9

Executive Order 9066 was a law, too. Didn't make it right.

Re: Converting old negatives to digital

True.

But if there's a LOT to scan, it might be worth the price. And the Coolscan can probably be sold afterward to recoup some of the cost.

Re: Hawaii Superferry - Chapter 9

Well that's just great.

A bunch of overzealous idiots with messed up priorities kill off something that had tremendous benefits to all. The only downside to the Superferry: passengers sometimes...

Re: Converting old negatives to digital

Flatbed scanners don't have the dynamic range and sensitivity required to get detail from the denser portions of negatives and transparencies.

The Nikon Coolscan and similar equipment dedicated to...

Re: Panettiere Not Very Hero-like

Until now, I thought Hayden was a type of large mango. I don't watch "Heros".

Panettiere, and others like her, should realize that they'd be no one if it weren't for fans. Learn to be a lot more...

Re: I could have been mugged

Situational awareness is a major part of avoiding getting mugged.

Re: Superferry Loses in Court - Hawaii Loses Overall

The EIS shouldn't have been skirted if it were fairly applied to all circumstances.

However, as Joshuatree said, 11 months of real-life experience has given everyone a very accurate picture of...

Re: Superferry Loses in Court - Hawaii Loses Overall

The difference between a refinery, quarry, landfill and a ship is that you can easily shut down the ship and not leave a permanent scar on the environment. You can't do that with the other three.

Re: Superferry Loses in Court - Hawaii Loses Overall

Doesn't help that just about everything that's not screwed down or glued in weill get stolen out of the car enroute. And of course YB refuses to take any responsibility.

Re: Converting old negatives to digital

Try King Digital in Kakaako. Or Hawaii Pacific Photo. They both have scanning services available.

I believe 126 Instamatic is actually about the same size as 35mm film. 110 was about the size of...

But imagine what it would be like if the paperboy kept shoving flyers in front of your face everytime you looked at a different article.

That's a pop-up ad.

Re: Panettiere Not Very Hero-like

If Panettiere's "finger lock" was on-camera, maybe the station should have file charges against her for Diane's sprained fingers.

To shout at someone is one thing. To intentionally injure someone,...
