Re: The cost of soda

Walmart at Keeaumoku has soda vending machines near the entrance (near the bottled water machine) that sells 12 oz. canned sodas for 50 cents. There's a big sign above it that says so. A real bargain.

Re: Movie Listings on Star-Advertiser.com

They still have $6 Tuesdays, but now it's $7. And also, for a limited time, it's now on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. But I agree with you, the theaters are having a hard time. Recently, the movies...

Re: Homeless solutions

Maybe he got laid off and couldn't get a job because of his age (he was 54 years old), ran out of unemployment benefits and became homeless. And then he couldn't get a job because he was homeless....

Re: McDonald's Menu!!

I've always felt McDonald's menus were confusing, especially the drive-thru menu. Recently, I went into the Keeaumoku McDonald's and discovered they had changed their indoor menu display. For the...

Re: Disappearing businesses

Foodland closed a while ago, but moved to a new location and re-opened a couple of weeks ago as Foodland Farms beneath Nordstrom in the new Ewa wing. It's much more than a grocery store, though....

Re: Canned Spam, a favorite in Hawaii. EEEEwwwww

I love Spam, so I guess I've been taking some of your share. But I don't go overboard on it.

Besides Hawaii and Guam, Okinawa, the Philippines, Saipan, and, believe it or not, Great Britain...

Re: Daredevil (2003)

I didn't like the movie version of Daredevil as much as you did. I liked Netflix's version much better, at least the first season. (I haven't seen the second season.) I thought Netflix's version was...

Re: The lifetime of a television set?

The old cathode ray TVs really do last long. I had a 19" Sony bought in 1992. Shortly after 2005, I wanted to buy a flat screen TV but was in no hurry, so I was waiting for my Sony to break down...

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I didn't like Man of Steel (too long, with neverending fight scenes) and I didn't like this sequel (too long, confusing, and overwrought, though I did think it was better than the previous one). But...

Shirokiya, long-time Ala Moana Center fixture next to Macy's, is closing at the end of March and will move to its new location at the new Ewa Wing as "Shirokiya's Japan Village Walk" in June. In the...

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Hey, RoyalHawaiian, welcome to Hawaii Threads. I agree with you about being forced-fed about Star Wars. But it worked! It's turning out to be the highest grossing movie of all time.

That aside, I...

Re: The Big Short

I saw this movie last week and liked it. It reminded me a lot of Spotlight (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/spotlight_2015/), which I think was a better movie, but The Big Short is still worth...

Re: Hawai‘i vs Air Force: Chow to be Fired?

Well, Norm Chow was just relieved of his duties (http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/30405282/norm-chow-out-as-uh-warrior-football-coach) (i.e. fired). Personally, I don't think it matters who they...

Re: Most common bird in Hawaii - your opinion?

This is actually an interesting question. Has anyone ever taken a count of the bird population? Years ago I would have said sparrows were the more common, hands down. But now, I think other birds...

Re: Oceanic's new modem

Lihingmui, it wasn't as easy as it should have been. But I would still recommend the upgrade.

The upgrade kit came with a lot of cables, most of which I didn’t use. The “Easy Connect Guide”...

Re: Disappearing eating establishments

Another one bites the dust. I used to go there a lot, but that was in the 60s and early 70s. I'm sure that's true for a lot of folks. Just another reminder that nothing lasts forever.

Re: Quality business cards?

I second Ryan's suggestion of VistaPrint. I haven't done business cards with them, but I did do something else. They're very easy to use, good customer service. And they're cheap. I see on their web...

Re: where can i get japanese pickles

There's also J-Shop (http://jshop-hawaii.com/), which is on Young Street near Kalakaua. It's a small place located where a drive-in used to be. I don't know if it has what you're looking for.
