  • If I had a gas stove ...

... I'd put my head in it.

It turns out that in all of Feb. and in coverage this week, I've spelled KHON Pres./GM Joe McNamara's name wrong ... after my initial coverage spelled it right.

    (sigh)

This means there'll be a correction in the paper and all that online coverage.

    (sigh)

    It's SO Journalism 101, and yet ...

Well, there's always the car idling in the closed garage scenario but, with your luck Erika, you probably have a carport or open air parking structure!

Seriously...we've all committed a faux pas or 2 during the course of our careers. Oh, make that many faux pas'!!! Ca-ca happens...it's part of the human experience. Don't beat yourself up too badly, 'kay. At least you didn't shoot McNamara while on a hunting trip!

Oh man, Erika, I was going to agree! I love cooking with GAS!

Screw it, don't look back. We all make mistakes. I remember when I was at PBN the Star-Bulletin had a full on front-page top-of-the-fold banner head: HED GOES HERE ...I hung it up at work because PBN was such a humble low-paying little rag back then. It was rewarding to see one of the big guys on the block make a mistake. While there, I also found something like that in the Wall Street Journal.

Talk about a major mea culpa! Kiddo, surely this msg alone draws massive attention to your error than just the ombuddies themselves! What the pho, Erika? Accentuate the positive Girlfriend!

NO DON'T DO IT ERIKA!!! Jeez don't you know there's a shortage of Propane gas. Popping your head in the stove would be simply selfish of you in this time of short supply of gas.

I thought you got the spelling correct. I didn't know there was another way of spelling BASTARD!
Life is what you make of it...so please read the instructions carefully.

Oh, Erika... (sigh)... another of my heroes fallen by the wayside and proving themselves to be mortal.

Somehow I don't think this will be the end of your illustrious career.

you've beat yourself up about it now move on dear, you know how this business works, "you're only as good as your last story"...it's a blessing and a curse...besides, there are those on our staff both past and present who have done much worse and not exhibited even a fraction of the same remorse that you have...you're still my hero...

My previous boss once told me, "Even monkeys fall out of trees."

What's important is that you believe in your heart that it's important to get it right. You know it. And now your readers know it.

So now you've done what you can about it and no one can ask anything more. Your readers will continue to look forward to your work.

We still love you and your column, Erika. By the way, with the natural gas shortage in Hawaii, the gas stove wouldn't have helped either. Thanks for always keeping us informed.

Oh my gosh, you folks are awesome.

I've been immersed in a project and off the site for a few days -- but I checked in this morning to find your torrent of support.

I am humbled and SO appreciative!

(... and REALLY sorry about my threatened selfishness in light of the propane shortage!)

                        YOU GUYS ROCK!

My morning is made. Heck, my WEEK is made!

Now we just gotta check to see if braddah Blaine, now that he's fallen down, can get back up, or if he needs Life Alert.

Re: If I had a gas stove ...

You really shouldn't feel too bad but I understand how it is when you care about accuracy. We can point fingers at PBN today for the rather egregious misspelling of Halekulani COO Peter Shaindlin's name in their article about Nobu Waikiki - they spelled it "Schaindlin" - the PR folks at the Halekulani are not going to be happy. He's not exactly new in town.

                            Erika...

Just to be nit-picky, I think what you probably wanted was a gas oven....

The good news is that propane is available again!

                            :-)

Seriously, keep up the good work. Nice to have a beat reporter provide a slightly different approach to a section that could be otherwise totally boring to the general readership. It's one of my must-reads, even though I normally don't read the business section.
