I had a long running love / hate thing for Bell but he sure gave listeners some amazing wee hours listening, my favorite being the first big interview with Al Belich around '96 re The Philadelphia Experiment which had me transfixed all nite thru the first hours and then the entire rerun. Art had a great show packed with fun and fantastic stuff but he never topped that ultimate one. when he quit it was never the same despite a few stellar moments thanx to a couple of good stand-ins for the new replacements de jour and ultimately the final guy who has run it into the ground for years now. Art was pretty damn good and radio will probably always be the worse for his early departure.

I don't listen to Coast to Coast AM as often as I did when Art Bell was at the helm. My favorite one show segment is the one where Bell was talking to some guy allegedly flying a plane into restricted air space over Area 51. Never knew what became of that.

The other program that I found interesting (over a few days as I vaguely recall now) was when those people in California committed mass suicide over the Hale Bopp (was that it?) comet as it came close to Earth.

I also liked to listen to his strange guests like Whitley Streiber, Ed Dames and Richard C. Hoagland of the Enterprise Mission.com.

        I remember when the
"Hale Bopp" came around I would watch it while sitting on my lanai in west Maui while listening to ART. The name of the wacko group that committed suicide was "Heavens Gate"

Art once did a show interviewing a specialist of Technical Remote Viewing (T.R.V.). It's kind of like being a trained psychic. He focused particularly on how the NTSB used remote viewers to determine the cause of the crash of TWA flight 800, where the remote viewers all concluded without any physical evidence that it was an explosion in the central fuel tank. Something like that. Really interesting!

Of course like most memorable radio deejays, Art's sleepy, deep, graspy voice was part of the charm of his show.
