  • The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien

Managed to see (and still watching as I post this) tonight's episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, the other two nights I had the TV on as background noise while I was doing other things in my place so I only heard a few things like Conan being a newcomer to Los Angeles as a recuring gag or theme.

It seems not only Conan got shipped over to LA but also Max and the band. Andy Richter is there too but I figure he was already there in LA. They even brought over Pierre Bernard (minus his Laz-a-Boy).

Tonight they did a take of "In the year 2000" which is now called "In the year 3000".

I actually watched Monday and I thought the segment with him on the Universal Studio tour tram bus was pretty humorous. His jokes about his
hair were funny too. I like Andy Richter (liked his sitcom but apparently
not too many other people did) so I've enjoyed him. I am not sure I'll
be a faithful viewer and have not had any interest in any of his guests
although Julia Louis Dreyfuss was at NU when I was there. So far I think
he's doing o.k. and his following will continue to enjoy his humor and
    personality. Good Luck to him.

I DVRed Monday night's show and have yet to watch it. I also watched the previous 2 night's shows but, true to my Leno form, fell asleep half way thru!! I think I heard somewhere that pretty much the entire staff followed Conan to LA. Love that Pierre did, too! That was a funny visual with him standing between Kareem and Conan!

So far the show appears to me to be Late Night with Conan O'Brien in a new set at a new time.

I'm a Leno fan and look forward to his return in Sept...esp. his new, age-friendly, time slot! It'll air at 9p in Hawaii.

Agree with you on the time slot mention! I like you barely make it through
after the monologue and opening things! Even the dogs don't make it
past then either, they're snoring away! If we don't hit bed by 9:00 at the
latest they get all salty and look desperate for shut eye!

Is the dog who wants to poop on people still there?

Will the earlier time slot put an end to the recurring character of the masturbating bear?

Only time will tell but my guess is...YES! I believe the late night time slot has a little more freedom than the Tonight Show time slot...which has a little more freedom than prime time! Middle of the night time slot is...Jerry Springer!

I think Conan is great, and he has been digging deeper into the mind of himself.

Did this happened while taping the show? Is the accident too squeamish for people to show on the air?

They should try teaming two hosts together for The Tonight Show with O'Brleno.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien

Conan just released the following public statement:

                            "People of Earth:

In the last few days, I've been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I've been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I've been absurdly lucky. That said, I've been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn't the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn't matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it's always been that way.

                            Yours,

                            Conan"

Interesting, but vague. Except for where he says "My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction."
                            Hmmm...
                            .
                            .

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

NBC is stupid. I wonder if Leno whined them into this. He's seemingly anti-whiner, but he made no bones about not wanting to leave his old post.
