    On the anniversary of the Dec. 26 Indonesian tsunami, a large quake has struck Taiwan and there were initially fears of a tsunami headed toward the Phillipines.

    Powerful quake strikes off Taiwan
    A powerful earthquake struck off southwestern Taiwan on Tuesday, prompting fears of a tsunami on the second anniversary of the quake and deadly waves that killed thousands in south Asia. An official at Japan's Meteorological Agency said there was no longer any danger of a destructive tsunami headed for the Philippines, as had been predicted.
    Taiwan 7.2 quake no tsunami threat to Hawai'i
    Japan's Meteorogical Agency says an earthquake off Taiwan had a prelimary magnitude of 7.2 and that a 3-foot high tsunami is headed for the east coast of Philippines. The earthquake happened before 3 a.m., HST, and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said based on available information there is no tsunami threat to Hawai'i and no other bulletins will be released unleased that information changes.
